Chelsea 2 Manchester United 2: Barkley strike denies Mourinho

    5230010-6297635-image-a-136_1540043148371.jpg

Jose Mourinho was involved in a furious touchline bust-up after Ross Barkley struck a last-gasp equaliser to hand Chelsea a 2-2 draw against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.

Mourinho appeared on course to record a first victory as United boss at his old club thanks to Anthony Martial, the Frenchman’s brace overturning a half-time deficit.Martial volleyed home to cancel out Antonio Rudiger’s 21st-minute header before curling in what looked like being the winner from the edge of the penalty area.

However, substitute Barkley – a major injury doubt for the fixture – made sure Maurizio Sarri avoided his first league defeat as Chelsea boss by smashing home a rebound in the sixth and final minute of additional time.
The dramatic finish sparked wild scenes of celebration on and off the field, with Mourinho taking exception to one member of Sarri's staff celebrating right in front of him. Security staff had to get involved to restore order, though the two managers shook hands after an eventful conclusion.

An early kick-off in late October sunshine, combined with a return to domestic duties after an international break, perhaps unsurprisingly led to a slow start before the game's opening goal in the 21st minute.

Rudiger gave Paul Pogba the slip to meet Willian's outswinging corner from the right, planting the ball low beyond visiting goalkeeper David de Gea for his first goal of 2018.

However, Mourinho’s half-time words seemingly transformed United. With the defensive shackles removed after barely venturing out of their own half before the break, they struck twice in an 18-minute spell to take the lead.

Martial capitalised on a slice of good fortune – Ashley Young’s shot taking two deflections to break into his path – to fire in an equaliser, while a heavy touch inadvertently set him up to bend an effort beyond Cesar Azpilicueta's attempted block and put Mourinho on course for a famous triumph.

Yet the Portuguese was denied on his old stomping ground right at the death. David Luiz headed Pedro’s cross against the post and Rudiger hit the rebound straight at De Gea, though it turned out to be third time lucky for the Blues when Barkley hammered his attempt into the net.

West Ham 0 Tottenham 1: In-form Lamela settles London derby

    5231426-6297885-image-a-27_1540047448023.jpg

Erik Lamela continued his fine run of form as he scored the winning goal in Tottenham's 1-0 London derby triumph away to West Ham on Saturday.

The Argentina international was often a nuisance to the Hammers defence and he got himself a deserved goal just before the break, adding to the six goals and three assists he accumulated in his previous eight games across all competitions.Spurs just about edged an unremarkable first half, with Lamela breaking the deadlock on the stroke of half-time with a neat header.

West Ham offered a little more going forward after the break and did threaten through Marko Arnautovic, but at no point did Spurs appear to be struggling with the pressure and they held on to move up to third at least for a few hours.
After an uneventful start, Harry Kane was the first to threaten either goal just before the half-hour mark, before West Ham lost Andriy Yarmolenko to an innocuous-looking heel injury.Things soon got worse for the hosts as Lamela found the net with a glancing header from Moussa Sissoko's left-footed cross.

Spurs almost got a second a few moments later, but Lukasz Fabianski pushed Lamela's shot away and then Davinson Sanchez hit the rebound straight at the goalkeeper.Hugo Lloris had to be alert early in the second period, as he clawed an Arnautovic header away from his top-left corner.

The Frenchman denied Arnautovic again in the 60th minute, tipping his low 20-yard drive wide of the mark, shortly before the forward was involved in a brief altercation with Sanchez.

Javier Hernandez – returning after more than a month out with an illness – had a late goal disallowed for offside before Lloris made another save from Arnautovic to secure the points.

Manchester City 5 Burnley 0: De Bruyne returns in comfortable win

    5231348-0-image-m-109_1540047402167.jpg

Sergio Aguero scored his 149th Premier League goal and Kevin De Bruyne returned from two months out as Manchester City beat Burnley 5-0 to reclaim top spot in the Premier League on Saturday.

Aguero gave City a first-half lead at the Etihad Stadium but the champions were perhaps fortunate captain Vincent Kompany was not dismissed in the opening minute for a high foul on Aaron Lennon.Goals from Bernardo Silva and Fernandinho early in the second half guaranteed City returned to winning ways after a draw at Liverpool before the international break, with Riyad Mahrez and Leroy Sane adding late gloss to the scoreline.

With victory secured, De Bruyne was able to come off the bench for the last 32 minutes to make his first appearance since the opening weekend of the Premier League season.

Aguero had already wasted two good chances when he opened the scoring in the 17th minute, finding the net for the seventh time in seven appearances against Burnley.David Silva dazzled the Clarets back line with rapid footwork, swapping passes with Sane before putting the ball on a plate for Aguero to tuck in at the back post.

Jeff Hendrick forced a fine block from John Stones and Johann Gudmundsson bent a 25-yard shot just wide as Burnley sought a response before the break.City doubled their lead in controversial circumstances in the 54th minute, Burnley's defence stopping in their tracks as Sane went down under Jack Cork's challenge.

David Silva squared for Bernardo Silva to smash home, although the ball appeared to go out of play, with City rapidly doubling their lead as Burnley struggled to regain composure.Sane's corner was only half-cleared and Fernandinho side-footed a 20-yard rocket into the top-right corner.

A 3-0 lead allowed Pep Guardiola to bring on De Bruyne, but it was Mahrez who lit up the closing stages with a beautiful 25-yard curler. And a miserable City return for goalkeeper Joe Hart was completed as Sane scuffed in a fifth.

Wolfsburg 1 Bayern Munich 3: Lewandowski leads Kovac out of trouble

    5237208-0-image-a-130_1540063046478.jpg

Robert Lewandowski scored twice and set up the other as 10-man Bayern Munich eased the pressure on Niko Kovac with a much-needed 3-1 win at Wolfsburg on Saturday.

Arjen Robben's second-half dismissal for two needless bookings - the first a dive on the edge of the area - gave Kovac some unnecessary concern, but James Rodriguez popped up in the 72nd minute to curtail a four-game competitive winless run.Lewandowski had earlier struck either side of half-time to establish a two-goal buffer that was reduced through Wout Weghorst soon after Robben's departure.

But, a day after Bayern president Uli Hoeness labelled press treatment of the club a "joke", the headlines are kinder for Kovac thanks to Colombia star James, a player with whom he has reportedly shared a tense relationship.

Scoreless in five matches for club and country, Lewandowski's struggles initially continued when his mishit follow-up to a Robben effort allowed Koen Casteels to scramble the ball off the line.Salvation soon came for the Poland international as, in the 30th minute, he read Thiago Alcantara's dummy of a Mats Hummels pass and finished through the goalkeeper's legs.

Casteels denied James before the break only for Wolfsburg to gift away the second within three minutes of the restart, defender William's backward header presenting Lewandowski with a simple one-on-one finish.

An unlikely lifeline for the hosts came through Robben's second booking for a trip on Elvis Rexhbecaj and they took advantage six minutes later as Yannick Gerhardt squared for Weghorst reduce the deficit.

However, the hope proved to be fleeting, James profiting from a fine Lewandowski pass to get the champions back on track in the Bundesliga.

Real Madrid 1 Levante 2: Lopetegui on the brink as abysmal run continues

    5229272-6297673-image-m-96_1540041091540.jpg

Julen Lopetegui looks to be on the brink of being sacked as Real Madrid head coach after a shock 2-1 home defeat to Levante extended the European champions' abysmal run of form.

The Madrid boss made five changes on Saturday in a bid to end a run of four games without a win or a goal. But Jose Luis Morales and a Roger Marti penalty put Levante two up inside 13 minutes in a dramatic LaLiga match that included three VAR reviews.

Madrid broke their club record for the longest goalless run in their 116-year history by failing to score in the first 56 minutes, a streak finally ended by Marcelo's strike 18 minutes from time.

But despite hitting the woodwork on three occasions, Madrid fell to defeat that leaves Lopetegui under further pressure to save his job, with the Clasico taking place in just eight days' time.

It took only six minutes for Levante to strike, Sergio Postigo's long ball completely missed by Raphael Varane, allowing captain Jose Luis Morales to round Thibaut Courtois and slide into an empty net. Before they knew it, Madrid were two down.Varane handled when trying to challenge Marti, and after a lengthy VAR review led to a penalty award, the striker took the spot-kick himself and beat Courtois, who got a hand on it.

In a frantic period, Madrid thought they had one back when Marco Asensio headed in from under the bar after Casemiro's aerial effort smashed off the woodwork, but another long VAR review denied the hosts due to offside.Madrid hit the bar again when Mariano Diaz sent a thumping header towards goal, while Lucas Vazquez somehow failed to beat Oier Olazabal from close range in another big opportunity.

Just before half-time, a magnificent Levante passing move, finished off by Ruben Rochina, was then ruled out through VAR due to offside in the build-up.Lopetegui brought on Gareth Bale on at half-time, while Karim Benzema and Dani Ceballos soon followed. But it took some time for the breakthrough, Marcelo lashing in a right-footed 15-yard strike after Benzema's assist.

The striker's curling 20-yard strike hit the post in the closing stages, and that was the nearest Madrid came to an equaliser, with Mariano's late tap-in ruled out for offside in a match that kept the officials busy.Levante should have made it three at the death, Morales firing wide when clean through, before the final whistle was greeted by boos from the home fans.

Barcelona 4 Sevilla 2: Messi injured but champions go top

    5239460-6298621-image-m-35_1540069041559.jpg

Lionel Messi was substituted with an arm injury that makes him a doubt for next weekend's Clasico but the Barcelona captain inspired a 4-2 home win against Sevilla to send his side top of LaLiga.Philippe Coutinho scored from Messi's pass in the second minute to get Barca off to a flying start at Camp Nou on Saturday and the Argentina superstar soon doubled the lead.

But Messi had to be substituted having hurt his right arm in an awkward fall and he could miss Wednesday's Champions League game against Inter, as well as next Sunday's showdown with rivals Real Madrid.

Luis Suarez's second-half penalty and a late strike from Ivan Rakitic secured the points despite consolations from Pablo Sarabia and Luis Muriel, Ernesto Valverde's men moving into first place in the table, with Sevilla third after their four-game winning streak ended.
Despite being on a run of one win in five in all competitions, Barca led inside two minutes with Coutinho bending home a sensational first-time strike to complete a wonderful team move involving Messi and Suarez.

Guilherme Arana struck the post but Messi scored a typically brilliant second for his side in the 12th minute, running on to a superb Suarez pass and cutting inside off the right flank to find the bottom-left corner from 20 yards to record his 25th goal against Sevilla.Messi, though, was then replaced by Ousmane Dembele after landing heavily on his right arm, Barca's treatment team initially patching him up but finding he could not continue.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen then produced a remarkable double stop before Suarez extended Barca's lead when he sent Tomas Vaclik the wrong way from the penalty spot after he was felled by the goalkeeper.Sarabia's 79th-minute reply took a vital deflection off former Sevilla defender Clement Lenglet to ruin Ter Stegen's clean sheet, the Germany goalkeeper then making a second double save.

Rakitic added a late fourth with a controlled volley against his old club but Sevilla still had the final say, Muriel bending home a fine finish in added time.Despite a welcome win, Barcelona will be concerned about Messi's injury ahead of next weekend's Clasico.

Paris Saint-Germain 5 Amiens 0: Ten wins in a row for PSG as Neymar rests

    5236610-6298381-image-a-88_1540061072309.jpg

Paris Saint-Germain's winning streak at the start of the Ligue 1 season was extended to 10 games in the rested Neymar's absence as the reigning champions scored three late goals in a 5-0 win over Amiens.

Neymar was given the afternoon off after representing Brazil in Saudi Arabia four days earlier, but Marquinhos, one of his team-mates in that game, headed in his first league goal since May 2017 to send PSG on their way.

The opener came from Angel Di Maria's corner and the Argentinian sent in another near-post delivery from a set piece that Adrien Rabiot nodded in to make it 2-0 before half-time.

Ferney Otero headed into the side-netting for Amiens late on but that only seemed to stir PSG into life as Julian Draxler, Kylian Mbappe and teenage substitute Moussa Diaby all scored in the final 10 minutes. The result ensured Thomas Tuchel's men maintained their perfect start and coasted to a 10th straight win in 2018-19. They have scored at least three goals in each of those victories.

Any fears of PSG's momentum being halted by the international break were quickly dismissed as Di Maria's 12th-minute corner was flicked in by Marquinhos' head at the near post.

Amiens were left feeling a sense of deja vu three minutes before half-time as another Di Maria corner from the right was also nodded in by a glancing header, with Rabiot the scorer this time.It should have been 3-0 at half-time but Edinson Cavani somehow sliced wide with a virtual tap-in from Juan Bernat's left-wing cross.

Amiens were denied a route back into the game early in the second period as Alphonse Areola made a double save from Thomas Monconduit and Saman Ghoddos.A nervy finish for PSG might have been in store had Otero's header from a corner gone inside the post rather than hitting the side-netting, but two more goals for the hosts in two minutes put the result beyond doubt.

An unmarked Draxler headed in the third before Mbappe got in on the act with eight minutes remaining, placing a shot between a defender's legs and inside the near post.

There was still time for Diaby, who had come on for Di Maria, to dance through and fire in a fifth too.

Juventus 1 Genoa 1: Champions' winning run ends despite record Ronaldo goal

    5235014-6298115-image-a-186_1540056326194.jpg

Juventus dropped points in Serie A for the first time this season as Genoa held them to a 1-1 draw in Turin on Saturday.Cristiano Ronaldo's first-half strike was cancelled out by Daniel Bessa as the visitors ended a five-game top-flight losing streak at the Allianz Stadium.

The result gives Napoli the chance to close to within four points of Juve at the top of the table and sees their 11-game winning run in all competitive competitions come to an end just three days before they face Manchester United in the Champions League.

Ronaldo received a player-of-the-month award before kick-off and continued his good recent form with the opening goal, becoming the first player to score 400 goals in Europe's top-five leagues in the process. But Bessa's header rescued a draw after some slack Juve defending and means Massimiliano Allegri's side no longer have a perfect record in 2018-19.

Ronaldo looked a threat from the off, forcing Ionut Radu into a good save before rattling the woodwork with a powerful header.

He eventually found the net 18 minutes into the game, tapping home from inside the six-yard box after Radu had been wrong-footed by Joao Cancelo's deflected shot.Juve seemed eager to score a second as soon as possible, but struggled to convert their possession into meaningful chances, and Wojciech Szczesny had to be alert to deny Krzysztof Piatek an equaliser from distance.

Genoa's growing confidence was rewarded after 67 minutes. Christian Kouame picked up a loose ball when Juve's defence assumed it was going out for a corner, and his cross was met by the unmarked Bessa, who headed home from six yards out.

Allegri introduced Paulo Dybala off the bench and both he and Miralem Pjanic fired narrowly wide from distance, but Genoa withstood the late pressure to move into 10th in the table and give Napoli the chance to close the gap to the leaders.

Huddersfield Town 0 Liverpool 1: Salah snaps winless streak

    5234784-6298231-image-a-8_1540055700115.jpg

Mohamed Salah's first goal in five club appearances ended Liverpool's four-match winless run in a valuable 1-0 victory at lowly Huddersfield Town on Saturday.

Egypt star Salah netted his 50th goal in English football midway through the first half to move his side two points ahead of former club Chelsea and level on points with Manchester City atop the Premier League.

The classy finish offered relief for Liverpool after consecutive blanks against Napoli and City prior to the international break, but there was to be no similar salvation for goal-shy Huddersfield, who are scoreless in each of their five home league matches this term and still without a desperately needed victory.

While David Wagner's men are sinking deeper into danger, close friend Klopp can be satisfied with a professional performance secured without several first-team regulars.
Robbed of the injured Sadio Mane and with Roberto Firmino on the bench, Liverpool's possession lacked a threatening edge until the 24th minute. The absences afforded Xherdan Shaqiri his second Premier League start and the midfielder responded with a well-weighted pass from which Salah poked in the opener.Jonathan Hogg soon rattled the left post with a sweet half-volley before unsuccessful penalty appeals for handball and a disallowed finish from an offside Alex Pritchard heightened Huddersfield's sense of injustice.

Klopp, having removed Jordan Henderson at half-time due to reported hamstring tightness, would have been able to relax had Salah not dragged wide of the far upright shortly after the hour.

Fabinho was introduced for his Premier League bow off the bench and, though the contest remained in the balance until the end, the visitors were composed in seeing out a seventh league win, their only real scare a fluffed Steve Mounie finish in the 82nd minute.

:(:(Chelsea draw an 'awful' result for 'best team' Man Utd - Mourinho

Jose Mourinho felt a 2-2 draw at Chelsea was an "awful result" for Manchester United and a "phenomenal" one for Maurizio Sarri's men after Ross Barkley equalised in the 96th minute at Stamford Bridge.Anthony Martial's second-half brace looked to have secured a superb win for Mourinho's men against his former club, with United coming from behind after Antonio Rudiger opened the scoring.

However, Chelsea substitute Barkley had the final say deep into stoppage time , the England midfielder's goal prompting wild celebrations on the touchline and a furious row as Mourinho was left incensed by provocation from Marco Ianni , a member of Chelsea's coaching staff.

That issue was said to be resolved as Mourinho accepted an apology from Ianni, but United's manager was still frustrated by the result of the game."[We were] the best team on the pitch," he told Sky Sports.

"If you say before the match, one point at Stamford Bridge is always a good result because it's so difficult for teams to win here."After the game, the way the game was, [it] is an awful result for us, and a phenomenal result for them [Chelsea]."

Mourinho said he could not understand the amount of stoppage time played, adding: "I hope every referee does the same as Mike Dean, to give six minutes. Normally when I'm losing I never have five or six or seven minutes."

In a subsequent news conference, Mourinho was asked what pleased him in United's performance and replied: "Everything. I think what I call the Chelsea triggers, we controlled them, and the reality is we conceded two goals from set-pieces, not in organised play."We controlled that very, very well ... I think we deserve much more than this result but this is what it is.

"If they [United's players] focus on the performance they will be really happy with themselves; if they focus on the result they will be very, very disappointed."

Real Madrid boss Lopetegui: The sack is the last thing on my mind

Julen Lopetegui insists he is "more motivated than ever" after Real Madrid's 2-1 home defeat to Levante on Saturday intensified claims he is on the verge of being sacked.

Madrid were 2-0 down after just 13 minutes against Levante and, although they pushed desperately for an equaliser, slumped to a fourth defeat in five games across all competitions, despite Marcelo pulling one back 18 minutes from the end. Before the match, reports suggested Lopetegui would at least be given until after next Sunday's Clasico with Barcelona to save himself.

That now looks less likely, but Lopetegui – who has only been in charge since July – is adamant he is not paying such speculation any attention.

"Right now that is the last thing I'm thinking about," he told reporters after the match. "What I want is to get the boys back up as soon as possible and prepare them for the next match we have in three days [against Viktoria Plzen].

"I feel more motivated than ever to continue, because the team has left everything on the field."Sooner or later we will get ahead. We know the injustice that football has had with us, but only the dynamic is changing.

"The dressing room was sad, but with the desire to raise their heads and look at the next game. The team has given their all and is going to leave everything [out on the pitch] to get out of this situation."Indeed, he feels the result of the game was unjust.

"It is clear that we have not deserved the defeat, but in football you win by scoring goals," he said. "We have shot 34 times, we had two off the post and had two goals disallowed. There were many chances, but these things happen in football, that's why it's so wonderful."We took risks, we created countless chances, but only one has gone in. The only thing that can be done is to win matches."

Marcelo's strike on Saturday ended a run of eight hours that Madrid had gone without finding the net in all competitions - a record run for the club that was formed in 1902 - and serves as further ammunition against the embattled coach, whose arrival at the club prompted him to quit the Spain job on the eve of World Cup 2018.Madrid have now gone five matches in all competitions without a victory, dating back to a 1-0 success over Espanyol in La Liga on September 22.

In the aftermath of their defeat, Los Blancos were left fifth in the Primera Division table, three points behind leaders Alaves, who played on Friday.

Strasbourg 2 Monaco 1: Sy howler and Grandsir red card cost Henry in first match

    5239754-0-image-a-27_1540069715289.jpg

Thierry Henry's first game in charge of Monaco ended in a 2-1 defeat as Strasbourg profited from a Seydou Sy goalkeeping howler and a Samuel Grandsir red card.

Henry replaced Leonardo Jardim seven days ago after Monaco picked up just six points from their opening nine matches, but their display in Alsace showed no signs of an instant improvement despite the former France star's arrival.

It took the home side 17 minutes to move ahead, but they relied on a woeful error from Sy, who allowed Adrien Thomasson's header to squirm out of his arms and into the net despite it looking like a routine save.

The visitors then lost Radamel Falcao to a muscular injury just before half-time.But Monaco's biggest blow came in the 66th minute when Grandsir – introduced as a substitute just one minute and 51 seconds earlier – was shown a straight red card for a high foot on Anthony Goncalves.

Lebo Mothiba effectively wrapped things up six minutes from time, racing clear and chipping a clever finish over the approaching Sy.Youri Tielemans pulled one back from the spot in second-half stoppage-time after Moussa Sylla – Falcao's replacement – was tripped, but it only proved to be a consolation, leaving Monaco one place off the bottom after their second worst start to a Ligue 1 season after 10 matches.

'Messi is fundamental' - Valverde accepts Barca will miss injured star

Ernesto Valverde feels Lionel Messi's injury provides an opportunity for Barcelona players to step up, although he acknowledges the team will miss their captain.Messi has been ruled out for three weeks after sustaining a fractured arm in a heavy fall during Saturday's 4-2 La Liga win at home to Sevilla.

The Argentina attacker will therefore be unavailable to face Inter in the Champions League on Wednesday, as well as missing next weekend's Clasico.

Barca have not won a Clasico without Messi since he made his debut for the club in 2004 and they failed to beat Athletic Bilbao when he was rested last month.Valverde is under no illusions about the challenges ahead without his talisman but suggested Messi's absence may allow other players to step up."It is clear that it is a sensitive loss," Valverde told reporters.

"In the end, it is about who he is and we know what he gives us. We all know what the opponent thinks when they play Leo."But we have to know that he will not be available and we have to face it. We will prepare for it but of course we are going to notice the loss of Messi.

"There have been games that Leo has not played in. He is fundamental and he marks a lot of the team's game, but we will try to keep our idea and take a step forward."We will miss him, win or lose, but we want to miss him winning."

Barca, who moved top of the table after recording their first LaLiga win for over a month, led 2-0 against Sevilla when Messi was replaced, the captain having set up Philippe Coutinho for a second-minute opener before doubling the lead himself.

But Barca were grateful to goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen for a pair of sensational double saves, while Luis Suarez and Ivan Rakitic struck in the second half to ensure a Clement Lenglet own goal and Luis Muriel's strike were mere consolations.

"It was a bit difficult for us to close the game," Valverde added. "It was a game against a good team, which has demanded a lot, marked by Messi's injury."And now we are first, which is no nonsense, seeing how close the league is."I know there are times when the strikers are more or less successful, but in the end the work of Luis Suarez is always there."
