Khao San road or Pattaya?

I’m traveling to Bangkok next month.
What is the best area to stay out of these two?

I will be spending 3nights.....

Khao San is a very busy area. It's the centre of Bangkok's backpacker culture. If you are staying for three nights you can do a trip to Pattaya. Takes about three and a half hours to travel.
