Tottenham complete £25m move for Fulham wonderkid Sessegnon

Tottenham have completed the £25 million ($30m) signing of 19-year-old Ryan Sessegnon from Fulham, the club confirmed on Thursday.

Sessegnon, who will wear the number 19 shirt for Spurs, has signed an initial five-year deal with the club having the option to add an extra year.Josh Onomah, the 22-year-old midfielder, has joined Fulham from Spurs as part of the deal, signing a three-year contract also with the option of a one-year extension.

Sessegnon came through Fulham's youth academy after initially joining the club back in 2008. He started training with the first-team as a 15-year-old and made his debut in the 2016-17 season.

The following year was when he really came to the fore, playing in all 46 of Fulham's Championship games and scoring 15 goals in the league as he was eventually named the Championship Player of the Season. He made 35 league appearances as his side were relegated from the Premier League last season.

He has moved between left-back and left-wing during his time at the Cottagers, and seems likely to take an attacking left-back role with Spurs. He will replace Danny Rose who, though he is yet to find an exit from the club, has been told he is free to leave by Mauricio Pochettino.

With Tanguy Ndombele joining earlier in the window for a club-record fee and Giovani Lo Celso arriving on an initial loan deal from Real Betis , it has been a productive window for Spurs with three of Pochettino's key targets secured. Jack Clarke was also signed from Leeds, but was immediately loaned back to Marcelo Bielsa's promotion chasers.

They could all feature in the squad to face Aston Villa at home in Spurs' Premier League opener on Saturday.Onomah, meanwhile, is a Tottenham academy graduate and made more than 30 first-team appearances following his debut in early 2015.

Capped for England at six youth levels, he is used to Championship football after two loan spells there in the last two seasons, with Aston Villa and Sheffield Wednesday.

He will be hoping to feature on Saturday as Fulham face Blackburn Rovers in their first home game of the season, having tasted defeat in their first game back in the second tier.

Fulham were beaten 1-0 at Barnsley on Saturday, thanks to an early goal from Luke Thomas.

Arsenal complete £25m Tierney signing from Celtic

    17056398-7337647-image-m-4_1565282019786.jpg

Arsenal have finally completed the signing of left-back Kieran Tierney from Celtic, for a fee of £25 million ($30m).

The 22-year-old Scotland international has signed a five-year contract at the Emirates, and will compete with Sead Kolasinac for the left-back spot.
He follows Nicolas Pepe, William Saliba and Gabriel Martinelli as Arsenal's fourth permanent signing of the transfer window.

“We’re delighted Kieran is joining us," said manager Unai Emery. "He’s a very talented player who will continue to improve. He increases our options defensively and I look forward to him joining our group.”

Lifelong Celtic fan Tierney joined the club at the age of seven, going on to make 170 appearances after making his first-team debut in 2015. The club released a statement saying that they "did all we could" to keep him at Celtic Park.“This is an opportunity Kieran wanted to take and while we will be sad to see him leave the club, we wish Kieran all the very best for the future," manager Neil Lennon told the club's website.

“Although he is still a young guy, Kieran has given the club so much. He’s a great lad and I’ve really enjoyed working with him. I’m sure he will continue to progress and develop and make a big impact in the English Premiership.

“It has obviously been a long process, but now it has been finalised we can now look ahead and concentrate on continuing to build our own squad and meet the many challenges ahead, domestically and in Europe."

The deal to take Tierney to north London has dragged on throughout the summer, with issues over the structuring of the payment having caused issues to the point it had seemed the move would break down entirely.

Inter complete €80m signing of Lukaku from Man Utd

    17057220-0-image-a-16_1565282736985.jpg

Romelu Lukaku has completed an €80 million (£74m/$90m) move to Inter from Manchester United, putting an end to a summer saga that sees the striker join forces with long-time admirer Antonio Conte.

Having fallen out of favour at Old Trafford under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the Belgian is now set to spearhead a Nerazzurri side looking to unseat a Juventus outfit led by Cristiano Ronaldo as the champions of Serie A.

Inter announced the deal by having Lukaku video himself in Milan, with the 26-year-old stating: "Inter is not for everyone. That's why I'm here."

He is now only the fourth player to have been transferred for a fee of more than £50m ($61m) twice in his career. The club have announced that Lukaku has signed a contract until 2024.The 81-cap Belgium international spent two seasons in Manchester, scoring 28 goals in 66 appearances for the Red Devils.

He was pushed out of the first team last season when Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho in the dugout, with the Norwegian preferring to play Marcus Rashford in the central role up front. It was understood over the summer that he was the top target for Conte ahead of his first season in Milan, but Juventus looked to have hijacked the deal.

The Serie A champions were prepared to offer Paulo Dybala in a swap deal, but that move fell through, as United were unwilling to meet the Argentina international’s wage demands.

There were also rumours Dybala was unconvinced by United and the collapse of that deal cleared the way for Inter and Conte to get their man.Lukaku was training with Anderlecht ahead of the new season as he agitated for a move away from England.

There were reports that the relationship between Lukaku and Solskjaer had broken down, with the United boss apparently telling the striker he should expect to train with the Under-23s until his situation had been resolved.Lukaku is the second forward player to arrive at Inter this summer after Eddie Salcedo moved from Genoa.

Mauro Icardi’s future at Inter will be even more murky now that the former Chelsea, West Brom and Everton striker has signed.

The Argentine forward was made club captain at San Siro at just 22, but a series of controversies have seen him become surplus to requirements. He had hoped a change of manager following the departure of Luciano Spalletti would see him welcomed back to the fold but Conte made it clear he was not part of his plans.

The arrival of Belgium’s record goalscorer would seem to be the final nail in the coffin for Icardi in Milan.

Dybala to Tottenham deal collapses amid image rights issues

Paulo Dybala's proposed switch to Tottenham has fallen through amid financial issues with the image rights associated with the Juventus forward.
Spurs had launched a shock bid to sign the Argentina international and had even reached a €70 million (£65m/$78m) agreement with Juve over the purchase of the player.

The move came after Manchester United had initially been in talks with the Serie A champions as they look into a potential swap deal that would have seen Romelu Lukaku head in the opposite direction.

But United ultimately decided against pursuing a deal, with Lukaku now closing in on an €80m (£74m/$90m) move to Antonio Conte's Inter instead.

Despite Dybala's high wage demands, Tottenham were confident they could reach an agreement with the player and continued to pursue a positive outcome on Thursday. But, after meetings between the north Londoners, Juve and Dybala's agent, it was established that a move would not be possible, with the finances required to secure his image rights, coupled with his wages, too much of a stretch.

Sources close to the talks have told Goal that Dybala was open to the idea of a move to the Premier League and Spurs, where he would have linked up with fellow Argentine Pochettino.

After the collapse of that deal, however, it remains to be seen what the future holds for the 25-year-old, who has seen his status in the Juve first-team diminish rapidly over the summer.

Indeed, sources have told Goal that Dybala remains on the market but with the Premier League transfer window closing at 5pm BST (12pm ET), it would appear a late switch to England is not going to be possible.

The financial might of England's top clubs meant that a move to the Premier League was the best option, and it is unclear where that will leave Dybala if, as now expected, he does not secure a transfer before the window closes.

The transfer window in China has already ended and Juve are likely to be reluctant to sell to their Serie A rivals, plus there is the fact his wage demands would be too high for the likes of Napoli, Roma and Inter.

Real Madrid's focus is now on Neymar, meanwhile, with the Liga giants ready to launch an opening bid of €100m (£92m/$112m)+ as Barcelona struggle to shift Philippe Coutinho and thus they do not currently have the funds to sign the PSG star.

Should there be further movement over the Brazilian and a possible exit from the Ligue 1 champions, however, that could free up the Parisiens to go for Dybala.

Whether they would be interested in the Juve forward remains to be seen, with the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Edinson Cavani, Angel Di Maria, Pablo Sarabia and Julian Draxler already part of their squad.

Spurs, meanwhile, do still expect to complete two deals on deadline day, with Giovani Lo Celso due to arrive from Real Betis, while Ryan Sessegnon is undergoing a medical ahead of completing a £25m ($30m) move.

Liverpool 4-1 Norwich City: Klopp's men make flying start

    17107826-7342249-image-a-26_1565380651483.jpg

Liverpool kicked off the new Premier League season with a convincing 4-1 victory over Norwich City at Anfield on Friday.

Last season's record-breaking runners-up Liverpool wasted no time in setting about getting maximum points, with Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk adding to Grant Hanley's comical own goal within the opening 30 minutes.Divock Origi made it four in the 42nd minute on his 100th Reds appearance but Jurgen Klopp's side were unable to add to their tally and Teemu Pukki netted a consolation strike for the newly promoted side.

However, the real sour note for Liverpool was the loss of goalkeeper Alisson, who had to be replaced by debutant Adrian in the first half after appearing to sustain a hamstring injury taking a goal-kick.
Liverpool got off to a flying start when Origi's cross from the left wing was diverted into the back of the net by Norwich captain Hanley in the seventh minute.

Marco Stiepermann wasted a second decent chance to get the Canaries on the board and they were punished when Roberto Firmino teed up Salah to slide a cool finish past Tim Krul.Norwich continued to threaten but Van Dijk made light work of shaking off Jamal Lewis to power in a header from Salah's corner.

Despite losing Alisson to injury, Liverpool remained in the ascendancy and took a four-goal lead into half-time when Origi nodded Trent Alexander-Arnold's fine delivery home.

Krul tipped a shot from Jordan Henderson onto the crossbar early in the second half and, after Salah kept the ball alive and played in Alexander-Arnold with a delightful backheel, Firmino was unable to convert from the England defender's cutback.

Moritz Leitner rattled the upright with a swerving effort as the Canaries regained some courage and they were rewarded when Pukki found the bottom-left corner from Emiliano Buendia's incisive throughball.

Alexander-Arnold's powerful free-kick was saved well by Krul in the 85th minute and Adrian kept out Onel Hernandez in stoppage time as Liverpool comfortably saw out a routine victory.

West Ham 0-5 Manchester City: Sterling hits hat-trick as champions make stellar start

    17127870-7344037-image-m-70_1565442591906.jpg

Raheem Sterling's hat-trick inspired a 5-0 rout of West Ham as Manchester City commenced their quest for a third straight Premier League title in style in a contest where VAR played a prominent role.

The England star struck a sublime second-half treble after Gabriel Jesus prodded the champions ahead in the 25th minute of a one-sided affair at the London Stadium.

Sterling's well-worked first goal came six minutes after the interval and though a VAR review found he was offside before Jesus tapped in, he did find the net again 15 minutes from time to put City beyond the Hammers' reach.

He could have added the third from the spot after Issa Diop fouled Riyad Mahrez but gifted the spot-kick to Sergio Aguero, which the substitute converted on a re-take, awarded following another VAR intervention.

Sterling was not to be denied the match ball, though, as he raced clean through in added time to compound an embarrassing eighth straight defeat for West Ham in competitive meetings with Pep Guardiola's men.

The returning Mahrez - cleared to play by anti-doping officials having missed the Community Shield amid concerns over what he had taken for a procedure he had on international duty - went close with two attempts before instigating the opener.

The Algeria winger released Kyle Walker, whose deflected byline cut-back was neatly turned home by Jesus.City moved up a gear after the interval and doubled their advantage when Kevin De Bruyne created space for Sterling to slide a finish under Lukasz Fabianski.

A VAR review denied Jesus a brace after Sterling was shown to have strayed marginally offside but the latter eventually made amends, timing his run to perfection as he cushioned Mahrez's pass and lobbed Fabianski.

Aguero headed to the spot in the 86th minute and got on the scoresheet at the second attempt, awarded after another VAR review found West Ham midfielder Declan Rice had encroached before clearing the ball that came to him after Fabianski had saved the initial penalty.Sterling, fittingly, had the final say in stoppage time, guiding home the fifth following Mahrez's measured throughball.

Neymar transfer talks 'more advanced' but PSG yet to agree sale amid Barcelona & Real Madrid rumours

Paris Saint-Germain director Leonardo has confirmed talks over Neymar's exit from the club although denied that any deal has been struck amid interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid.A summer of speculation has seen the Brazil international heavily linked with a big-money move.

The 27-year-old is, after two seasons in Ligue 1, eager to secure a switch away from France, with a return to La Liga the favoured option of the former Barca star.

The Catalan giants on keen on taking him back to Camp Nou but they need to offload Philippe Coutinho first. As revealed by Goal , PSG are keen to have the former Liverpool man, plus Nelson Semedo, included in a potential €50 million deal to sell Neymar back to the Liga champions.

And that willingness to negotiate with Barca will likely have been welcomed by Madrid, who are also interested in landing the South American forward and have been preparing a bid of their own.

It may be that they have surged to the front of the queue, with Leonardo conceding that progress is being made ahead of the summer deadline for leading sides across Europe. He told reporters when asked for an update on the long-running Neymar saga:"Talks are more advanced than before, but no agreement.

"We will see what happens - everybody needs the future to be defined."It has been confirmed that Neymar will play no part in PSG’s 2019-20 season opener against Nimes on Sunday.

Head coach Thomas Tuchel added, with the forward still nursing a knock after previously sitting out Copa America duty with Brazil: "It is my job to be coach. He is in an individual training phase, in and out of collective sessions."He is still a little injured. He took a knock and did not do a full week [of training]."

While Neymar remains unavailable to Tuchel and PSG, the Ligue 1 title holders are able to call upon the services of World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe. He has become a talismanic presence at Parc des Princes, at just 20 years of age, with Tuchel saying of the exciting French striker: "Our relationship is good.

"Yes, he is a star, but I do not think about him that way. I am always trying to find ways to get him to score. He wants responsibility, he is ready and he is mature."

It could be that further firepower is brought in alongside Mbappe before the transfer window closes in France, especially if Neymar departs, but Tuchel is reluctant to be drawn on his recruitment plans for now.He said when quizzed on possible incomings: "I do not want to think about it too much. I will lose my mind.

"I am focused on my team and the guys we have here. They need me energy and attention. We will decide if things happen."

:love::love:Rashford: I give my life for Man Utd & will get the club back where it belongs

Marcus Rashford claims to “give my life” for Manchester United and has vowed to take the club “back to where it belongs”An academy graduate, who is now 21 years of age and entering his fourth season as a senior star at Old Trafford, may have a different role to play in 2019-20.
With Romelu Lukaku having departed for Inter, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking for someone else to lead the line.

Rashford has never made any secret of his desire to operate as a central striker, or his desire to deliver success for United.

Having committed to a new long-term contract this summer, the England international believes he is ready to help the Red Devils shake off their struggles of recent years and compete for major honours.

Rashford told United Review: “I think it’s a very exciting moment.“For me it was just about getting the new contract out of the way and solidifying that I’m here for the club. It’s about getting the club back to where it belongs, what everybody knows Manchester United are.

“I give my life for the club and that’s the most important thing. For me, when you’re in a squad with a lot of young players who share the same ambition and have the same drive, I can only see us succeeding.

“It might take us some time, but if we all stick to the game plan, work collectively as a team, and we’ve got a good manager who knows the club and who shares the same ambition, who knows what we can achieve?”

United’s transfer business under Solskjaer has seen them place greater emphasis on youth, with the likes of Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka snapped up alongside £80 million ($96m) centre-half Harry Maguire.

“There’s a group of young players together and we can start to become what we decide to become,” added Rashford.“That’s an important thing to me: that we can start to help the younger ones coming through. It’s all part and parcel of growing up in a United shirt. It’s just the next step.”

Rashford is still a youngster himself, despite having 170 club appearances and 32 international caps to his name, and is aware of the need to take his game and that of those around him to greater heights.

He said: “For me it’s just about becoming the guy that’s responsible and reliable. I feel like that’s the next step for me.

“Everything goes in order of the way it should be done. I remember these similar steps when I first went into the Under-18s and it takes you a season to grow into that standard of football. Before you know it, you’re one of the leaders there and you take responsibility on the pitch. Now I’m in that situation for the first team.”
Rashford and United are set to kick off their 2019-20 Premier League campaign at home to Chelsea on Sunday.

:love:Manchester United 4-0 Chelsea: Rashford, Martial star as Blues crushed on Lampard bow

    17159264-7346533-image-a-26_1565543546804.jpg

Two-goal Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial starred as Manchester United crushed Chelsea 4-0 in Frank Lampard's first Premier League match as the Blues' head coach.

Red Devils manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had suggested in pre-season Rashford and Martial were set to share striker responsibilities this term and they were the inspiration as United clinched an emphatic opening-day win, albeit one that somewhat flattered them.

Chelsea certainly edged a first half that was arguably more entertaining for its seemingly constant stream of errors than anything else, but United led 1-0 at the break thanks to Rashford's penalty, despite Tammy Abraham and Emerson Palmieri hitting the post for the visitors.

Quality initially remained at a premium in the second half, but two fine goals – one apiece for Rashford and Martial – in the space of 95 seconds after the hour turned United's nervy lead into a comfortable one, with debutant Daniel James completing the scoring late on.

It took Abraham – the scorer of 26 Championship goals with Aston Villa last season – just four minutes to try his luck, striking the left-hand post from 18 yards.

A United team featuring new signings Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka took the lead against the run of play 14 minutes later, Rashford coolly finding the top-left corner with a penalty after being clumsily felled by the hapless Kurt Zouma.

While United's nerves settled a little with the goal, Chelsea continued to look the better side and went close twice towards the end of the first half – Ross Barkley forcing David de Gea into a vital save, before Emerson struck the post from close range.Solskjaer's men took control just past the hour, though, as Chelsea were caught on the break and Martial bundled in Andreas Pereira's sublime cross.

It was three shortly after, Paul Pogba providing an excellent assist after an underwhelming first-half display, clipping a ball over Cesar Azpilicueta for Rashford to bring down and nonchalantly slot past Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Substitute James got in on the act nine minutes from time – his deflected effort, following a super run from Pogba, beating Kepa to round off what ultimately turned into a great day for a United side that started shakily.

‘I call him The Beast!’ – Pogba lauds ‘leader’ Maguire after £80m defender’s Man Utd debut

Paul Pogba has lauded new Manchester United team-mate Harry Maguire, branding him a “leader” after just one appearance for the club and revealing that he now calls him “The Beast”.

The Red Devils moved late in the summer transfer window to bring England international centre-half Maguire onto their books.A record-breaking £80 million ($96m) deal was required to secure his signature, with the 26-year-old now the most expensive defender in world football.

His hefty price tag has placed added pressure on the former Leicester star, but his debut showing in a 4-0 victory over Chelsea suggests that United have found value for money.

Pogba considers that to be the case, telling French reporters after a positive opening to the 2019-20 campaign for the Red Devils and their big-money addition: “I call him 'The Beast'.

“Honestly, as you saw, he was really impressive. He is a leader. He fit right in with us in training.“We talked about controlling the defence well and he has a good understanding with Victor [Lindelof]. It was a very good match to start with from the whole team.

“In the first half, we were dominated in terms of chances and possession, but we reacted in the second.“Our changes enabled us to take over. We were better in possession and in terms of chances.

“We were lucky to have the lead through the penalty in the first half, but after a bad start, we finished the match well. We are satisfied with our performance.”

Marcus Rashford fired United in front against Chelsea when converting a penalty that he won following a foul by Kurt Zouma. He grabbed a second of the game in the second half, shortly after Anthony Martial had put the Red Devils in complete control, with substitute Daniel James wrapping up the scoring.

Pogba played his part in a convincing win, with one defence-splitting pass allowing Rashford to find the target, and he has seen signs of encouragement from a new system introduced by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The World Cup winner said of new-look United and the role he is being asked to play: “That [position change] has been there for a while now - since before this season.“In terms of organisation, it is a bit more like how I play with the French national team.

“It does not bother me where I play, whether it is higher or lower, we adapt and enjoy. The team too, we were much better coming out of the back and that is something to keep going with in the coming games.“Rashy and I understand each other well. We try to do a maximum number of passes like that. I am starting to understand his calls for the ball too and that enables me to find him like I did.”

United will be back in action on Monday August 19 when they take in a trip to Wolves.
