Pay the booking.com amount. I book hotels everywhere mostly using booking.com, including SriLanka. Never paid more than the booked amount.
But in December 2018, I booked Amaya, Pasikudah through booking.com and later when I called them on another matter, they gave me a better price including all the buffet meals. They didn't overcharge and gave a good discount on meals.

also sometimes calling directly give you a better deal, sometimes not.
the best thing about booking is that the host is careful not to get a bad feedback on booking. when you book directly they can treat you less knowing that you can't rate them anywhere.

True...once I did a bad review on a luxury apartment in Copacabana beach, Brazil. The apartment was managed by another company and when we made a big fuss, the next day, they moved us to a similar flat next block which was really good.
When I wrote the bad feedback, booking.com wrote to me back informing that my complaint will be investigated in two days and on the third day they took the listing OFF their system.

Whether booked on booking.com or not, please write on TripAdvisor. I always check with TripAdvisor reviews.

No... You got to talk to the hotel. That's what I wrote on my earlier post on this thread, had you read it.
But sometimes the hotels do advertise their specials separately.
