Machan is this a one time vaccine like Rubella or timely vaccine like influenza?
The problem is that the long term effectiveness of any Covid vaccine is under question. Everyone has noticed that convalescent Covid patients lost their antibody levels very rapidly. About 70% -80% of the antibodies are gone within 3 months. This is alarming as the person can get reinfected.
Earlier with SARS, the antibodies lasted for about two years and with MERS about 34 months. But with Covid it's very different. If this is the case, then there will be NO herd immunity.
Other than the antibodies we also have T-cells. No one has made a specific T-cell study on convalescent Covid patients. The T cells are much better at recognising and killing virus-infected cells. But for Covid, antibodies are important in the lungs because T cells arenât good at getting to airways.
Some vaccine developers are studying how they can trigger T-cells along with the antibodies.
So it looks like you will have to get a sort of booster every few months. But surely a vaccine will help to break the rapid spreading of the disease.
