    fXlTO4g.jpg

Barcelona will face Juventus in the group stage of the Champions League after they were paired together in Group G in the draw, which took place in Geneva on Thursday. The heavyweight fixture will see Cristiano Ronaldo come up against Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi for the first time since his move to Juventus from Real Madrid in the summer of 2018.The two men, who have shared 11 of the last 12 Ballon d'Or awards between them, enjoyed a historic rivalry in La Liga, and will resume hostilities in Europe's elite competition next month.

Barca and Juve have been joined in Group G by Dynamo Kiev and Ferencvaros, the Hungarian outfit who beat Celtic en-route to qualifying for the main draw for the first time in their history.Meanwhile, Manchester United's return to the Champions League has been marked with a draw against last year's Champions League finalists PSG, RB Leipzig and Istanbul Basaksehir in Group H.Reigning champions Bayern Munich will play Atletico Madrid, Red Bull Salzburg and Lokomotiv Moscow in Group A for a place in the knockout stages, having got their hands on the trophy for the sixth time by beating PSG 1-0 in Lisbon on August 23.

Group D will see 2018 winners Liverpool, who suffered a surprise early exit at the hands of Atletico last term, square off against Ajax, Atalanta and Midtjylland.13-time winners Real Madrid have been dealt a tough hand in Group B alongside Shakhtar Donetsk, Inter and Borussia Monchengladbach.Manchester City were handed a more favourable draw against Porto, Olympiacos and Marseille in Group C, as they bid to win the competition for the first time in their history once again.

:(:(:(Manchester United 1-6 Tottenham: Solskjaer's sorry side suffer joint-record home defeat

    qaHNYIa.jpg

Son Heung-min and Harry Kane starred as Tottenham inflicted a joint-worst home Premier League defeat on 10-man Manchester United, who were hammered 6-1 at Old Trafford.

The woeful Red Devils conceded four home first-half goals in the Premier League for the first time having taken a second-minute lead through Bruno Fernandes' penalty.Tanguy Ndombele levelled before Kane brilliantly set up Son to put Tottenham ahead before the favour was returned shortly after Anthony Martial was sent off, the Frenchman retaliating by striking Erik Lamela in the face after he appeared to be caught by a straw arm himself.

Son had a deserved second prior to the break, before the brilliant Serge Aurier added a fifth and Kane's late penalty meant the scoreline matched United's 6-1 defeat to rivals Manchester City in October 2011 and completed a joy-of-six return for ex-Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho. Fernandes rolling in the early spot-kick after Davinson Sanchez clumsily chopped down Martial was as good as it got for United.Harry Maguire and Eric Bailly's woeful defending allowed Ndombele to smash home via a deflection and Son brilliantly dinked over David de Gea after Kane's quick-thinking at a free-kick caught United's defence cold.

Martial's red card for raising a hand to the face of Lamela preceded more abject defending, with Bailly picked off by Kane before the England striker stroked home Son's return pass.Remarkably it was 4-1 when Son got the run on Bailly to prod in Aurier's low centre before the break.Aurier then drilled in Spurs' fifth after collecting Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg's exquisite throughball at the end of a fine team move.Paul Pogba, who failed to track Aurier for the fifth, completed a miserable outing by crudely bringing down Ben Davies, allowing Kane to lash home his second from the spot.

Levante 0-2 Real Madrid: Vinicius and Benzema clinch win for champions

    SxWteJV.jpg

Vinicius Junior and Karim Benzema were on target as Real Madrid overcame Levante 2-0 in LaLiga on Sunday.

After netting the winner against Real Valladolid in midweek, Vinicius scored in successive LaLiga games for the first time in his career. The Brazilian spurned a couple of chances at the Estadio de la Ceramica to add to his tally after Benzema struck the post early in the second half. Levante also had opportunities – Nikola Vukcevic hit the crossbar in the first half and Thibaut Courtois twice kept out Enis Bardhi around the hour mark. But Levante's push for an equaliser was punished in the fifth minute of stoppage time when Rodrygo released Benzema and the striker got off the mark this season with an emphatic finish at the end of a fast break.

Madrid moved in front in the 16th minute when a corner fell to Vinicius at the back post and he made the most of not being closed down by bending a delightful effort into the far side of the net.The champions struggled to create further openings and only the bar stopped Vukcevic restoring parity after he climbed above Nacho Fernandez – deployed at right-back with Dani Carvajal and Alvaro Odriozola out injured – to get his head on Jose Campana's corner.

Madrid showed greater urgency after the restart and, in the space of four minutes, Benzema struck the base of the post before Vinicius shaved the upright and missed the target from six yards out.Levante were unperturbed and Bardhi saw a 25-yard thunderbolt parried by Courtois, who then kept out the midfielder's next effort, which took a deflection off Casemiro, with his leg.Sergio Ramos had a goal ruled out for offside but Madrid put the game beyond doubt when Benzema showed great composure to polish off a swift counter-attack.

Bayern Munich 4-3 Hertha Berlin: Lewandowski scores four and rescues Flick's men at the death

    I3JJkG1.jpg

Robert Lewandowski scored four goals, including a 93rd-minute penalty, to rescue Bayern Munich a 4-3 victory over Hertha Berlin in a dramatic Bundesliga clash at the Allianz Arena.

The German and European champions' 32-game unbeaten streak was ended in a shock 4-1 loss at Hoffenheim last weekend and they nearly dropped two more points on Sunday.Lewandowski had put Bayern two goals in front - the second assisted by full debutant Chris Richards - but Jhon Cordoba powered in a header with almost an hour played and Matheus Cunha scored an impressive equaliser soon after. The prolific striker's hat-trick goal was then instantly cancelled out by Jessic Ngankam in an incredible second half, but Lewandowski won a penalty in stoppage time that he stepped up to convert as Bayern got back to winning ways in the league.

Hertha thought they had the lead inside 15 minutes, only for Cordoba's thumping strike to be ruled out for offside.Bayern had an offside goal of their own chalked off by VAR when Thomas Muller headed in from close range, though they were in front four minutes later via Lewandowski.

Alexander Schwolow parried Lewandowski's initial header but the ball was sent back to the edge of the six-yard box and the striker volleyed in.Lewandowski's landmark 100th Bundesliga goal at the Allianz Arena arrived five minutes into the second half as he collected Richards' pass inside the box, worked a bit of space and arrowed a shot into the bottom-left corner. But Cordoba headed in Cunha's free-kick to pull one back, before the latter exchanged passes with substitute Krzysztof Piatek to coolly tuck past Manuel Neuer and equalise.

Bayern, who beat Borussia Dortmund 3-2 to win the DFL-Supercup in midweek, temporarily restored their lead thanks to Lewandowski's tap-in after Muller helped on a free-kick with 85 minutes on the clock. The visitors levelled once again two minutes from time - Ngankam, on the field for 64 seconds, stooping in to head past Neuer. But there was still time for one last twist as Lewandowski was dragged down in the box and stepped up to win the match for Hansi Flick's men.

Arsenal 2-1 Sheffield United: Saka and Pepe see Gunners blunt Blades

    fO4Rg3W.jpg

Bukayo Saka celebrated his first England call-up with a goal as Arsenal beat Sheffield United 2-1 in the Premier League on Sunday.

The Gunners failed to fire in a poor first half at Emirates Stadium, but two goals in the space of three minutes from Saka and substitute Nicolas Pepe secured their third top-flight win out of four in 2020-21.Mikel Arteta's decision to leave out in-form striker Alexandre Lacazette was in danger of backfiring before Saka and Pepe rocked the Blades, who might feel aggrieved David Luiz was not sent off early on.David McGoldrick gave Chris Wilder's side hope with their first Premier League goal of the season seven minutes from time, but Arsenal held on.

The Blades have lost all four Premier League matches and will need Rhian Brewster, who was not signed in time to play in north London, to hit the ground running after the international break.David Luiz was fortunate to get away with a tug on Oliver Burke's shirt as he tried to race away following a mistake from the Arsenal defender early on.

The Gunners did not pose a threat until Aaron Ramsdale made amends for a poor clearance by tipping over Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's long-range strike eight minutes before half-time.Aubameyang was able to continue after going down following a sliding tackle from Sander Berge, who was shown a yellow card, and Ramsdale comfortably saved the Arsenal captain's acrobatic effort late in a lacklustre first half.An unmarked Aubameyang was a whisker away from getting on the end of Dani Ceballos' clever first-time pass as Arteta's side tried to raise the tempo.

Arsenal finally produced the quality they had been lacking to take the lead just after the hour mark, Saka finishing off a slick passing move by nodding Hector Bellerin's cross from the right into the top corner at the back post.Pepe added a second just six minutes after coming on, cutting in from the right after playing a one-two with Bellerin and clinically picking his spot in the far corner with his left foot.McGoldrick curled home from 20 yards out to set up a tense finale and the striker flashed a shot wide in the closing stages with Ramsdale also sent up, but Arsenal were not to be denied all three points.
