    Hi,

I plan to buy a new TV.
I watch movies, TV shows mostly in 720p/ 1080p HEVC x265/ h265 format.

I didn't get a chance to look at latest TV models yet. But about an year ago, one of my friends bought a Sony 40 Inch TV for nearly 70000/=. That tv wasn't able to playback x265 file type.
Most likely any TV under 50000/= available now will not be able to playback x265 too.

When I was googling I noticed some gadget called "TV Box" from Rs. 5000/= and onwards.
According to the description, its able to playback x265.

    So following are my questions.

    01. Is there any TV model under Rs. 50000/= that can playback x265?

    02. Can that "TV Box" do the job I want to do? (i.e. play a x265 file in a TV that doesn't support x265 playback using a USB drive)

    Thanks

TV box converts a normal tv to a smart tv.
Yes it can play x265 files. But check carefully before buying a tv box by checking reviews etc. Since x265 playback is very resource hungry. Some cheap tv boxes may struggle to play high quality videos.
Also check the tv's specs carefully. It might be able to play x265 format.

I have a nikai android tv i brought for just 18k. When i install vlc on it, it handles any file i throw at it. I assume sony tv you checked is not an android one. Anyway sony is greedy in offering features. I have a sony e6100 HT as well that couldn't play x256 damn thing. Go for android tv available for less than 50k there are plenty of options. Lg 32lk610 can handle x256 less than 50k

sony, samsung TV's are the issue. All a bit uncommon TV brands run on android. u can install any app on it while major tv brands cant even on web OS. since i wanted few TV's and one for ur type of needs , got an AIWA 32 inch for one of my rooms. i could say its the best, cheapest choice of smart TV's for me.

for theatre purposes my preferred brand is always SONY

First check the resolutions supported by the tv. some budget made tv's are using laptop panel boards which does not support standard resolutions of tv's .. as someone mentioned above 1366 x 768 is a laptop panel resolution. as I experienced most of tv boxes does not support mentioned resolution, the closest resolution you can select is 1280x720 which will cause a upscaling or if you select a higher resolution from the tv box it will cause a downscaling as a result it will drop the quality and the sharpness of the video.

if the tv supports x265 playback its fine but make sure all the codecs are supported by the tv some encoders tend to change audio codecs and video codecs according their preferences.

I have tried most of tv boxes in the market MXQ,, MI S / 4K / Mini / Stick , H / mini series, etc. even the cheapest MXQ 4K PRO is capable of playing x265 1080p and uses half of the processor when decoding. I used to have a LG TV with 1366 x 768 resolution long time back, every TV box I have tried did not support its resolution and videos were downscaled / upscaled while reducing its quality and sharpness.

    My recommendation :
before selecting a tv box check the tv specifications whether its full HD or it supports standard tv resolutions. do not ever go for a tv which does not have standard tv resolutions. if you cant go for a Full HD TV go for a HD Ready TV with 1280x720 resolution.

MX4 PRO 4K is around 5k you can use it with HD Ready TV - 1280x720 resolution also with a Full HD tv which uses 1920x1080 resolution. if your requirement is only to play x265 its powerful enough
