What a great government? Will they support to those who going to lose job / income due this?????

Come on! Give the chair to somebody who can do the job!!!!!

Once upon a time we faced a similar situation.... Not only that it was a foreign exchange violation if you had $5 in your pocket. :(

You may check and find in internet about Sirimavo Bandaranaike's economic policy. People were suffred and it resulted her to lost in election and she never won and it was political disaster for her and SLFP. Again she came to political seat when her daughter won the presidential election.

I will tell you what it was like in the '70s. Each house had a ration book and depending on the number of people in each house we were allocated a list of essential food items that we could buy from a Sathosa outlet. You had to stand in a queue for hours to get your rations, then from the sathosa queue, you had to go to the bakery queue to buy your bread. We couldn't buy any nice clothes, the only materials available were cotton, you have to buy the material and go to a tailor to get your clothes made. Dasa store on Galle Rd Colpity once had a supply of Tetron Cotton material which was a luxury, we had to run and stand in a queue and get it before they ran out of stock. When someone came from overseas it was unbelievable to get a small toy or some chocolates. This was a long time ago and I can't remember everything, but I can tell you it was absolute misery to live in Ceylon, as it was called at that time.
