As I did mention before the Delta variant is the most infectious and the fittest out of them all. These are the new data and facts based on recent US based studies.
Fully vaccinated people can get infected - but the vaccines work.
In one US County in Massachusetts in a packed indoor event, 350 out of about 470 people, nearly 75 percent became infected. The Delta variant caused some 120 of 133 cases tested & analyzed , or 90 percent, in the outbreak.
While five people were hospitalized, including one unvaccinated person, as of July 27, no one had died.
Vaccinated people might readily transmit Delta variant.
In the above mentioned episode, both unvaccinated and vaccinated people infected with the delta variant had similar levels of coronavirus genetic material in their noses, as measured by PCR, suggesting similar viral loads.
This is the reason why now CDC advises masks even for fully vaccinated people in indoor settings.
This is not exactly a study on transmissibility from vaccinated persons and that needs more investigations. Because though the viral load is the same, these are reasons to believe that it could be less infectious. Cannot comment on this unless properly tested.
The Delta variant can make you sicker.
Three recent studies in Canada, Singapore and Scotland indicate that the variant raises the risk of hospitalization, intensive care unit admissions and death.
But there is evidence that even though the vaccines can be less effective, but still, vaccination reduces the risk of these serious complications.
Delta variant is more transmissible than the other variants.
Internal CDC documents show that
Delta variant is more transmissible than: - MERS & SARS - Ebola - Common cold- Seasonal flu & 1918 (“Spanish”) flu - Smallpox
Delta variant is as transmissible as:- Chicken Pox
Vaccinations & Masks remain Crucial.
This is why the CDC recommends return to masking - Use a N95 or a surgical mask.
