The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) today announced that all leave for the staff has been cancelled from today until further notice.
Addressing the media today at the CEB headquarters, the official said the circular notifying this has been issued and according to it, the CEB staffers could not take leave without the permission of the Deputy General Manager.
Coming to Colombo by CEB office vehicles is strictly prohibited, and if done so, it shall be deemed as misuse of state property.
While ignoring the circular issued by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) cancelling all employees' leave, the CEB United Trade Union Alliance has decided to converge in Colombo tomorrow after applying sick leave, Alliance Convener Ranjan Jayalal said.
He told the media today that they would tell the people as to what would happen tomorrow is not a strike, but an agitation.
However, due to reaching of workers in Colombo for the protest, there may be a delay in restoring any kind of breakdown. "We will definitely be campaigning tomorrow. A decision to go on strike has been made and the date will be announced tomorrow, " Jayalal said.
All CEB workers are being brought to protest in front of the CEB head office. Moreover, the employees of the Petroleum Corporation are protesting in two places, in front of the Port Clock-Tower.
"A special gazette notification was issued last Friday declaring fuel supply and ports as essential services. However, the CEB was not categorised as essential service in the notification. They might have forgotten or omitted by mistake," the convener added.
