Have you guys tried this? We have a power cut now so instead of plugging the heater, I used a gas cooker and an aluminum pot to heat the water, and made tea.
I didn't change anything else in the ways I make tea. (mug full of boiled water added to tea strainer, 3 minute brewing, adding it to mixed milk powder, nestomalt and sugar) However, when I started to drink it, the tea was markedly hotter.
I can usually drink the tea from the mug straight away when I make tea with water boiled using the heater. So I guess theoretically, gas cooker boiled water shouldn't be any different. However, it almost burned my mouth.
I did some research and it seems like boiled water is boiled water no matter what, and the heat energy is directly tied to the temperature and nothing else. So there shouldn't be any difference when used in a similar manner to make a tea.
I'm seriously tempted to do a controlled study, where I measure exact amounts of water, boil them with heater and gas cooker separately, take the temperatures, make two identical tea cups, and check the temperature of the tea etc.
If my mouth is any indicator (I guess it should be), gas cooker boiled tea should be markedly hotter. However I want to put this to you guys first to see if anyone else has any guesses why this happens. Maybe some of you have similar experiences?
Is there some other property of water that somehow holds extra energy at the same temperature, or somehow has different characteristics when releasing it?
