Summary

India has cancelled the manufacturing license of Marion Biotech, a drug maker whose cough syrups have been linked to 18 child deaths in Uzbekistan. The World Health Organization (WHO) had warned against the use of two cough syrups made by the company, saying they were substandard. After the deaths were reported in Uzbekistan, India's health ministry had suspended production at the company. Authorities in Uttar Pradesh state, where Marion Biotech is based, have now "permanently" cancelled the company's license. India is the world's largest exporter of generic drugs, but many Indian firms have come under scrutiny for the quality of their drugs

Mostly substandard. Lack of quality control and poor cleanliness. Only their samples are good. It's well known that their antibiotics are adulterated causing more harm than good. When you take these drugs, the required dosage isn't delivered, thus leading to the development of drug resistance which is dangerous.

Remember the Ranbaxy scam? Read the recent book (circa 2019) "Bottle of Lies - Ranbaxy and the Dark Side of Indian Pharma" which exposed the dark side of the Generic Drugs mainly with Ranbaxy. It's a nice read.
