The Fake Prophet and the Fallen Angel !!!
The story of fake pastors and prophets has come up on numerous occasions and went as far as being associated with Sri Lanka Cricket that led to an investigation conducted after the dismal performance of the National Cricket team in the T20 World cup played off in Australia. The “Born Again” cult as most call it, consists of a variety of Preachers, Pastors and the highest of them being called Prophets.
Being born again is a Christian metaphor used for decades to manifest one leading a new life of which in its true sense must reflect one’s strengthening of faith, honesty, and love for one another, none of which can be even remotely seen being practiced by those who hold office in these churches. This concept grew as a business model and fraudulent money mongers emerged and began a network which is today a deadly mafia that engages in money laundering, weapons, gold smuggling, narcotics and even murder.
The network grows by enlisting leading businessmen, sports personalities and celebrities who are then used as brand ambassadors of the cult and unknowingly get associated as being part of the fraud.
In Sri Lanka these fraudsters extend their network to the top echelons in politics to ensure that they secure the much-needed safety net to get about their frauds with impunity. There are many such preachers and pastors and in no way are all tainted or being accused of fraud as some of them simply preach the gospel and help those in need. The “Big Fish” use the Old Testament “Tithing” or giving one tenth of ones earnings to God as their bait and lure hundreds of unsuspecting, naïve, hopeless souls to mortgage their properties, sell their houses, fork out hard earned savings to donate to these day light robbers who rinse people dry. Their inner circle is most often their own family members to ensure that nothing gets exposed, and no one can infiltrate the inner circle where the deals happen. The second tier of officers are generally handpicked amongst the most loyal followers and assigned different positions that carry incentives and rewards but nowhere near the big bucks and the business empire that the “Boss” and his family builds. These officers must sign off on iron clad NDA’s which are tailor made by handpicked lawyers and confidantes of the Prophet.
Despite the fortress that these fraudsters build around them there are a few who see the wood from the trees and leave these cults, some even threatening to disclose the inside operation but have been threatened with death and legal action using the NDA as an armour.
The TWO big fish in Sri Lanka include Kirby Lanerolle or the Pastor in WOW Church, as they call it and Prophet Jerome Fernando who is considered the shark between the two with a network that goes as far as the UK and has tentacles in African Countries and Dubai. Jerome’s humble beginnings as a garment merchandiser driving an “Old Maruti” to quote his own words from the pulpit, has now amassed wealth that makes politicians look like angels. Jerome has an interesting past and one that sheds light on who he is as a human – greedy and shameless.
Around the year 2007 Jerome Fernando who, in his own words, was working in the garment industry and driving a simple vehicle, became a pastor in this Church called the Kings Revival Church whose founder is Dil Kumar who is based in Dubai. The Sri Lankan branch of KRC grew in numbers as Jerome mesmerized a stunned and speechless audience with his version of the “Prosperity Gospel” driving home the key point that everyone must be rich and being rich can be achieved through him. During his school days he represented St Peters College in Cricket and went on to be a under 19 national team members but for all intents and purposes was a below average student, as most who knew Jerome would opine. He hailed from an average middle-income family. His mother, Wendy, had a small beauty salon and was a simple lady and a devoted mother. Jerome does not have a good word for his father Jayalath, whom he openly
refers to as a gambling addict but was born again and became a beneficiary of his Prophetic Son’s fraudulently earned millions, which would put gamblers in the shade. Jerome’s wife Melani is also from an average middle-income family. Her sister Michelle married Jerome’s younger brother Johnny and is also part of this cult they call “Church”. Strangely her other two sisters Marisa and Marrietta have nothing to do with Jerome’s theatrical fraud.
Jerome used to refer to Dil Kumar in KRC Dubai as his spiritual father but quickly became the star with great showmanship that attracted the crème de la crème of Colombo. Jerome whose insatiable hunger for money bore no limits decided to ditch his second Spiritual father – he claims to have had an African spiritual father before Dil Kumar- and formed his own church branding it as PJ Ministries almost similar in rhyme to Ministry of Crabs except that the latter does not rob you in broad day light. Those who were average middle-income earners soon realized that the Prophets’ miracles were witnessed only by the naïve, gullible, demented, and lonely super-rich whose undivided attention and confidence he enjoyed. This super rich fraternity was joined by one Kushal Perera- an Old Josephian- whose father-in-law Gratien Gunawadena was a classmate of the then President Mahinda Rajapakse and one of his close buddies. Before long, with Kusal’s connections to high places he rose to be in the inner circle of Jerome and before long Jerome saw the light and elevated himself to a Prophet. Kusal’s past precedes him and yet with his father-in-law’s connections to the top and wealth became the perfect foil for Jerome. His prophesies were as bad as the weather department in Sri Lanka but then again none cared as he performed stage managed miracles wowed the utterly jobless and gullible Colombo ladies who prevailed upon their spouses to be part of this miracle worker who could also get them riches. A former security officer in the Prophets security detail who left this cult confessed how everything is choreographed and managed behind the curtain so much so that there are paid moles in the audience to be part of this farce. (His identity cannot be disclosed for his own personal safety)
This fraudster attracted personalities of respect and credentials such as Roger Wijesuriya (Former Sri Lankan Cricketer) Dr Rohan Fernando and his family (Director Aitken Spence) Stasshani Jayawardena (Daughter of business magnate Harry Jayawardena) Sumal Perera and Family (Access Group) to raise money and recruit followers to his church.
To attract followers, he also enlisted prominent personalities such as Kumar Sangakkara and Wife, General Shavendra Silva’s wife, Rosy Senanayake and Anne Jayamaha to name a few.
By 2018 this fraudster teamed up with an international fraudster - Uebert Angel- who lives a life of such ostentation in the UK, which he made his home, that make William and Kate look like paupers. Most used to whisper about the Prophet using Ubert Angel for money laundering. The first tremor to hit the Jerome’s cult was when most of those with credentials left in disgust and some even threatened legal action, but the shame of having been duped by this fraudster far exceeded the loss they suffered financially. Mr. and Mrs. Kumar Sangakkara’s exit from PJ ministries sent the prophet into a tailspin as word got around that this guy is a confirmed fraud. Around 2020 things began to unravel when Al Jazeera reported that Shepherd Bushri of South Africa who is supposed to have developed Ubert Angel, is wanted for fraud in South Africa and had fled. International news channels reported this as early as November 2020.
Notwithstanding the above, Jerome Fernando had the audacity to invite Uebert Angel to Sri Lanka in January 2020 with the approval of the then PM Mahinda Rajapakse who had a private audience with Ubert Angel at Kusal Pereras’ residence in Layards Road . Ubert’s Visa was refused by the Sri Lankan
Mission in the UK but Gratien Gunawardana interevened and got it sorted through his good friend Mahinda Rajapakse
January 2020 at Kusal Perera’s House
Jerome Fernando used the opportunity of Uebert Angel's visit to Sri Lanka to launch a massive Dome situated on a 35 acre land in Katunayake which is referred to as “The Miracle Dome". Dr Rohan Fernando (Director Aitken Spence) who was a member of this Miracle Dome board suddenly resigned after Ubert Angel's visit and with him quite a few left sensing that there is muck beneath this cloak of prophesy. The property on which this fraudster built this Dome is owned by Gratien Gunawardena who had apparently received it from the government for a BOI project. The irony is that there was a deafening silence from the monks who are known for their Sinhala Buddhist supremacy. Now it has surfaced that some senior monks were rewarded handsomely by Gratien to buy their silence.
