It is tax payer's money. If government want to give more free services, that means government will tax you more.
in Canada, health insurance is paid by government. So our tax rates are higher than USA.
Education is paid by government in USA and Canada till grade 12. I think that is enough.
University education is from your pocket (there are student loans as well). Students can work part time and earn tuition fees.
In USA, health insurance is paid by the workplace usually. That means you and your partner need to work (or more preciously motivated to work). if the job is a good well paid job, then you get better insurance. To get better job, you need to work smart and hard. This will benefit the economy. That is why US economy is number 1 or 2 economy in the world.
In Canada, there are government paid benefit. So some people decided to stay at home without doing any job. Not much incentive to get a well paid job (overall tax is high). Canada economy is not performing well. This is a reality.
My opinion is that healthcare may be better provided both by government and private sector (like Sri Lanka). Education is paid by tax payers till 12. I think that is enough by the government. All others should be privatized.
