This guy is nuts not to inform the airline when he purchased the ticket. I remember once an airhostess came and informed me that they will not serve nuts to several seats as there's a person with severe nut allergy. So basically they establish a nut free buffer zone of several seats around the person concerned. Not for the whole aircraft.
Nut allergy doesn't pass through smell and nut particles generally doesn't gets passed through the air filtration system either.

PS: Also the air inside the cabin gets exchanged every 4 minutes or so. After Covid airlines upgraded the HEPA filters and take measures to keep them in good order.
