We did Five countries. Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. We normally drive through on our own but this wasn't going to work at all in these parts of the world and we opted for a complete tour from an operator based in Uzbekistan.
They organised everything from visas, hotels, guided tours etc. At every land border crossing they made sure their guides handed over us to the immigration post and the next guide picked us at the other end. Forms have to be filled up in Russian or their native language and the guides did this. We had no worries at all.

There's a Kazakh consulate or an embassy in Colombo (recently opened up), may be check with them.

Else an e-Visa can be obtained from https://www.vmp.gov.kz/en/services/visa-service

PS: There are travel operators in SL who organise tours. One of our guides told me that she was expecting a group from SL after we left.

Can't remember exactly. My wife did the bargaining and I believe it was just a bit above USD 4000 per person. The total trip was about 25 - 26 days.
This excludes airfares. I had booked Emirates via DXB and then onwards with FlyDubai. (Emirates issued a single ticket)
But the Iran war came in and couldn't fly via Dubai. So Emirates fully refunded the fares. Then I rebooked to fly via Delhi. From Delhi Air Astana.
Air Astana flies on time, excellent in-flight service. It's a Kazakhstan based airline.

Food and liquor in these countries are very cheap. You can buy liquor 24/7. They mostly are Islamic countries but there aren't any gonibillas around. Older women wear a headscarf and our guide lady said it's worn not because of religious reasons but to show that you are married.
The food is fabulous too
