The Bayankole tribe considers a thin physique unattractive. For them, fat is simply sexy. So, when girls reach the age of eight or nine, they must undergo a fattening process. This is generally done to accelerate the girls' weight gain so they can attract a husband.
The Banyakole wedding includes several ceremonies, including a gift-giving period known as "Kuhingira" where the bride's parents and friends present her with gifts such as cows and other food to take to her marital home.
On the wedding day, a feast is held at the bride's house where the father must slaughter a bull, while at the groom's house there is also a feast to consummate the marriage.
But first, there must be one last ceremony, which involves tests that must be carried out by the bride's aunt.
This means that the bride's aunt tests the groom's sexual abilities by having sex with him. This is to ensure that he is powerful and virile.
During the act, she learns all his sex tricks as well as his favorite styles so that she can offer her niece pointers on what he likes sexually.
After confirmation, the bride is then instructed by her aunt and allowed to consummate the marriage by being sent by her aunt to the husband with her blessings.
