The government is planning to ban private school students from taking mobile phones into their schools. This ban already applies to students attending government schools. The Telecommunication Regulatory Commission said it hopes to set up phone booths at these schools as an alternative so that the children could use them in an emergency.
Education Minister Susil Premajayantha had yesterday said that the law forbidding schoolchildren bringing mobile phones into the school will be strictly enforced. He said that the non-enforcement of the rule had led to a number of unfortunate incidences in schools recently.
