I had been talking with another EK member about this...and it just compelled me to bring this up with other elakiri members as whole.

"God is spirit. Spirit has no gender. The only use gender has it to procreate, and since spirit isn't going around having babies, there is no gender. Use whatever pronoun you want. Even the bible says God created us in his image -my image is female, therefore God's image to me is female. And the bible was written by a bunch of female-hating men, so of course God is spoken of as male."

i didnt say this..but i do believe that since God did create us in His/Her image in my instance he would be she. but then again God is an entity..can you actually put a gender on an entity..not to equate God with a inanimate object like a fan..but a fan has no gender..it just "is"

Here are some other opinions about this:

Yes, Savyna, it depends on what we call God or gods, because in some religions, there are many heavenly beings, not just one Creator God.

When we meditate we see the mind in its pure form, and there's no gender in it. So, if you take God to be a high spiritual state, it cannot have a gender. Also, in Buddhism, gods are supposed to be born in the heaven, like just appearing there as a life form; which means, there's nothing such as male, female, or union of male or female responsible for the birth of a god.

Unfortunately, we lack a word respectable enough to be used for something without a gender. "It" doesn't give the due respect to these high spiritual beings.

thats exactly how i feel. so it kind of just ends up being Him or whatever. I just wondered what others thought...i didnt want any drama or anything. and too bad there isnt a word (at least in english) that can be given to a high sentient being that doesnt necessarily have gender, that with pretty much anything we have to tack on something to identify its gender.

how can you say that bible was written by female hating men?

im not saying they hated women...but we do know that at the time the bible was written and its stories were compiled...women didnt have that much of a high standard in life..they were there as caretakers, the ones that did the cooking, and the ones having babies...what was it for women to be portrayed better and smarter in the bible when their society didnt reflect that. not that im saying there isnt stories of strong women in the bible..but they highly pale in comparison to the countless stories of men who did this and men who did that.
    ultimately,
i never said they hated women, women just weren't highly regarded.

i think that God has no gender. but possesses both male and female counterparts. if God is a spirit..which i believe that he is..he can be both and nothing at the same time. each of us (for those that believe it so) have God and Christ consciousness within us. since im a girl the Godly spirit resting within me is female..the one in you would be male.
i also believe that God is in nature and all living things..maybe even in non-living things..since alot of their pieces used to be living (like metals and whatnot) those are harder to classify with genders, but its there.

i would say a tree is a perfect example of how God is both male and female...one sole tree possesses both male and female aspects...the fruits of the tree would be the female bearing part and the part that puts the seeds out and fertilizes the tree so that fruit can grow is the more male part. but when we look at the tree we dont see thats a her tree or thats a he tree..we just see "Tree" whole and perfect in everyway.

i can still read in your post, to quote "bible was written by a bunch of female-hating men" ..this is as good as the rest of the bible :) god might as well be a she-male.

yes but then someone could argue..if God made Adam..wouldnt God be more female inclined..since women are the ones pushing people out..no matter what they are? and wouldnt it make sense in a more male dominant society for someone to say hey we were made first..and then 3 days later God just felt like making a girl..since adam looked "lonely"?

that's pretty much what everybody does..they read a good deal and hold on to things they like to believe..just like you like to believe that god is more feminine ..if you can have faith you can of course have faith...

believe whatever you will and ignore the rest..that's best you can do when it comes to bible.
