Today I call the AirTel customer support. To be honest AirTel have a great customer support for non AirTel customers. Asked for package details and good news they now give 7.2 Mbps for their limited packages. ( 3GB and 1GB ). I hope it will not be like Dilog's speed mafia. And another update, The Bandrich Bandluxe C270 (Unlocked) is the modem now available at AirTel for Rs. 13'350. E220? GONE !. Still you can go for a different device if you like, But since the both Mobitel & Dialog locking their modem I don't think so. But still you can unlock the modem, question is who will give you the 1 Year Warranty?,

    මොබිටෙල් එකේ අන්ලොක් කරපු මොඩම් එක rs.9500.
    7.2mbps
    with 1 Year Warranty

As of the 29 June 2010 my Airtel speed has dropped from an average of 220-250kbps to around 20-30kbps. I called customer care and was told nothing is wrong with their connection and that they will look into the matter. MDMA (Mobile Data Monitoring Application) shows my profile is set at 1856 down and 384 up.

Does anyone know how Airtel is reducing my speed. (using the Data Unlimited package)

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

any of wireless internet providers can't give stable constant speed 7.2Mbps data rate.
even 3.6Mbps because all technologies using shared bandwith (HSDPA/WiMax)

7.2Mbps is a tower's antenna bandwidth. so if only one user connected to tower's this antenna, he/she can get 7.2Mbps theoretically. if 10 users connected, 7.2Mbps/10. but
it depends on which user request downloads.

every internet providers (mobitel/airtel/dialog) can give 7.2 or 3.6. but we can't get constant speed. thats the problem.

Please note. this is SRI LANKA.
HSDPA is not a board band connection. this is only advertising tricks..

thats why every provider put capacity limit or speed limit. to maintain their limited bandwith.

If the speed gradually went down over a couple of hours I would accept that many users are sharing the available bandwidth. Also over time it should it increase and decrease as users log on an off. In my case it went down at once and has stayed down for over 48 hours now.

Now browse the internet at the grand speed of 10 kbps from Airtel.
