Help need regarding DVD player

I have a SHARP DVD RECORDER - DV-SR85SA. It's divx compatible. but i can't play .avi files that i have burnt as data DVD. I googled this brand, but couldnt find about the product even in sharp website. Could anyone give some help on this please?
