isn't that too big ? i mean a 18.4" screen ?

Yep, if you want to carry it on a daily basis, then surely this is going to break your back :P.

Except for the size and weight, rest of the specs seems pretty average for an entry level/midrange notebook on a budget. I mean it has a decent Core 2 Duo 2.0Ghz (T6400) processor, Integrated 4500MHD graphics, 18.4 (1680 x 945, not full HD though) screen, 320GB HDD, 4GB RAM, DVDRW, Wi-Fi, webcam etc..

If you are looking for a desktop replacement type notebook, to use mostly at home, then this seems like a decent machine.

Personally I prefer small notebooks with a large external monitor, that way you can have best of both worlds. I have a 13.3 notebook hooked up to a 26 Wide LCD :D:

Now I'm cursing myself for buying this 16 incher for the sake of watching movies on the bed :P
I should have gone with a netbook, no need to baby, forget about fiddling with air vents and shits, decent battery life.. lol

IMO a netbook is only good as a secondary machine, they are too weak and tiny to be used as your primary.

Ya, my 15.6" is also about 5 Kg
My first notebook was a 14.1, even that was too big for my liking, cos I carry it almost daily. Then I moved to a 12.1 and now a 13.3. But one thing to watchout when buying a small notebook : NEVER buy discrete graphics. I had to change the MB twice on 12.1 and once on the current 13.3. Graphics cards keep crapping out on me :growl:, and they heat up like hell...

Mine is bit old, and it is an entry level 8400M GS, but still it reaches 70C even when idling . I dont play games on the notebook, but decided to get an nVidia card cos I thought i'll give me more freedom and better overall performance. But I'll think twice about a discreet card when upgrading next time.. But from what I hear the new hybrid (discrete + integrated) systems are much better at power consumption and heat.

hmm.. sad scene.. mine supports 4 clock stages (I presume yours too) for the GPU, VRAM and Shaders so it usually idles around 45-50c , the GPU itself is nothing to write home about though, a 9200M GE

P.S : HDD is the hottest POS on mine, idles around 51c. :dull:

I think there is a problem in the thermal design of the heat sink assembly and the 8400M series chip. I have a DELL XPS M1330, it has a well known history of GPU failures. There was some talk about this on the net last year. nVidia and DELL finally admitted that there is problem with some of their 8400M and 8600M series based notebooks. DELL even released a new BIOS update to run the FAN all the time (what a lame fix ). To make matters worse DELL has put a thick thermal pad between the GPU core and heat sink. I have seen a special copper mod on the internet for this problem, but didn’t try that cos I still have 1.5 more years of warranty left on this thing (got a 3 year complete care).

P.S : flashback, sorry for going off topic.. ;)
