    Dell Studio 1557

    * Intel Core i7-720QM Quad Core Mobile CPU - Isn't it too much? why whould u need an i7 CPU? state why.
    * 4GB Shared Dual Channel DDR3 at 1067MHz - Best you can get.
    * 15.6 inch High Definition (720p) LED Display with TrueLife and Camera/Facial Recognition SW - Superb
    * 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 - Superb for gaming on a Lap
    * 500GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive - Enough for now...
    * 8X DVD+/-RW Dual Layer Drive - Good

If you have the money then go for it. Core i series will soon replace all existing Core 2 and Quad CPUs. Since more and more applications are coming out with multicore optimizations you'll see a notable difference with future apps. 4570 HD is a decent card, but there are much better mobile graphics cards out there, but then again if you are not looking for a gaming machine it doesn’t really matter.

How and for what exactly are you going to use this notebook ?

P.S : DELL Studio series international warranty is not valid in SL (Softlogic), so if something goes wrong you'll have to ship it back.

BTW you can configure a DELL Studio XPS 16 with
    • Intel® Core™ 2 Duo P8700 (2.53GHz)
    • Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium With FREE upgrade to Windows 7
    • 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1067MHz
    • BluRay Disc Combo (DVD RW)
    • 15.6 inch WLED LCD (1920x1080) FULL HD Display
    • 500GB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive
    • ATI Mobility RADEON™ HD 4670 – 1GB (more than 2x faster than 4570 and 20% faster than NV 9600M GT)
    • With other standard accessories (BT, Wi-Fi, Gigabit Ethernet etc..) for
    • $1,299
IMO that notebook is better value for money.
