I have written the following article to almost every English News Paper in Sri Lanka but they have said that it is controversial and was rejected. Is this is what we call "Freedom of Speech" in Sri Lanka? Isn't our country a "Democratic Socialist Republic"

Theft in the Software Industry
Today in Sri Lanka there is theft in almost every possible industry, but now it seems it has caught up to the Software Industry as well. Theft is a part of daily life to us because it is a part of human life. But everything requires control and amongst the highest priority is Theft. But the theft in the Software Industry becomes overlooked because of the way it is done and the fact that people don’t understand its value.
The Software Industry in Sri Lanka was slowly developing and today has become popular because of mainly money and glory, this is where things start to go missing and people start to realize they have been robbed of there hard work. This is because in the software industry developers get paid a lot not for the work but for the talents they posses. And as you may know Software requires strong thinking power and skill hence the glory part comes into view and this is what mainly drives the industry to higher levels.
Just like every other creation a creator of a software will take pride in his creation and just like Art will require foreign perspective as well. There is no point in making a software and keeping it inside a box. So developers most of the time tend to use the internet distribute the software and allow many 10000’s of people to cast their views on it. With each product the software developer gains something that cannot be bought for money, which is experience! Just like an artist progresses from scratch images to beautiful master peaces a software developer progresses from small childish software to a large multi-million dollar software creation.
And the nicest part about the software industry is that developers do not have age restrictions. Even a 5 year old child can be a software developer if he has the required talent, skill and thinking power. And because the fact that experience requires time to build children are now a days guided to software development at an early age and today there are even children who can out shine many adult developers.
But just like Art, software is easy to rob. This is because a set of readable instructions in a file make up the software, it is what is known as the source code. Every developer will safe guard his/her source code unless required to be shown for a judgment, for example a competition. And this is where the root of theft in the software industry starts.
A young developer I know submitted his software creation to a competition that was held by a reputed private organization which has aims of uplifting the software industry. However found that his creation was rated as a “good for experience” project and was thrown away. But a few weeks later he found that another young developer has won first place with a strikingly similar software. Soon after he found symbols that lead him to judge that either that he was not only robbed but was deprived of a placement in a competition or the other developer has a physiological connection with him. This is for you to decide. I ask you, is this how Sri Lanka is going to “uplift the software industry”?
Year 2009 being the English and IT year I feel it is time that government bought certain laws to such private organizations which will force them to use strict security and transparency when dealing with source codes and software in competitions. So that the future developers of this great nation will be protected to yield greater true master paces of experience, talent, skill and thinking power.
