At the moment, 2009 October,

The Government has a majority of support due to the winning of the war.
Economical and International Debt and Corruptness in the Authorities are major issues

<01> Sri Lankan Army Facts and Exhibition

><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><

Lanka-e-News, Oct.05, 2009, 11.25AM

These days an Exhibition is being held at the Bandaranayake commemoration Hall to coincide with the 60th anniversary celebrations of the SL Army which fell on the 10th of October. The Exhibition is aimed at depicting the achievements of the Army during its 60 years history.

The SL Army spent 30 years of its 60 year history waging a severe war is also now passing into history. During this period, the death toll of the Army is nearly 24000. The number of completely disabled soldiers is 15000.

In the Eelam war 4 against the LTTE which commenced in Marvilaru alone, 6261 soldiers died, and the number injured were 29551, while the LTTE lost nearly 22000 of its cadres. It is however a mystery that though the Armed forces have taken into custody injured LTTE cadres from time to time and their totally disabled cadres are referred to by the Army, yet after the war is ended, none of them has been seen.

The Army of course says that the LTTE instructed them to kill most of the LTTE cadres who were critically injured.

The Govt. is taking measures to rehabilitate all injured and maimed soldiers when engaged in their lawful duties, and make them useful citizens to the country. This responsibility is vested with the Army‘s division ‘Ranaviru Sevana’

We also noticed the measures taken by the Ragama Ranaviru Sevana under the Army rehabilitation Director Board to restore the soldiers from a vocational and psychological angle.

These soldiers of the younger generation may have been driven to this fate due to many reasons, but life cannot be given up just because of that. They suffered due to the bloody battle. The Ranaviru Sevana is doing its best towards this end. Those who have never seen a battle ground should visit the Ranaviru sevana and meet this youths to know what a war is like.

The fear and bloodshed experienced and suffered by these youths is portrayed by these photographs. The Ranviru Sevana is engaged in an onerous responsibility of rehabilitating 15000 of these youths.

It is the hope of every Sri Lankan that the SL Govt. will consider those displaced and are in abysmal suffering and hardships as citizens of SL and rehabilitate them with a view to bringing them close and integrating with the SL nation.

If those of you reading this article wish to make a contribution to the ‘Ranaviru sevana’, please contact the Chief Commanding Officer Colonel Ms. Tamara Wickremesekera or the second in command, Major Lakshman Karawita.

Summary:

BMICH eke Army eka gana useful Exihibition ekak thiyenawa as you all know.
It is very useful and also fun ;)

Around 24 000 SL soldiers died in this war in the 30 years  - very high although it cannot ve compared to other death tolls of other wars where millions of millions have died.

Ranaviru Sevana is doing a superb job. Help ti if you can. :)

<02> General Sarath Fonseka given a Ministry Post

><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><

(Lanka-e-News, Oct.08, 2009, 3 PM)

Chief of Defence staff, Major Gen. Sarath Fonseka has been appointed as Secretary to the Sports Ministry, in addition to his present post.

This appointment was made yesterday (07) night with immediate effect. The Sports Minsiter Gamini Lokuge too was not aware of this change.

The present secretary S. Liyanagama of the Sports Ministry has been transferred to the Export development Ministry with immediate effect.

It is reported however that he is undecided on the acceptance of the new post.

The Minister of sports and recreation answering inquiries confirmed that the appointment is true, but he has not turned up today (8) to work.

Meanwhile at a media briefing today, SLFP (M) leader Mangala Samaraweera said, the Govt. is preparing to send Fonseka as an Ambassador.

UNP National Organizer S.B. Dissanayake speaking at an interview with the ‘Sunday Lakbima’ stated after the war victory, the Govt. sent Army Gen. on pension hastily when he was preparing to meet the parents, widows and children of the soldiers who died in the battlefield with the aim of comforting and wishing them well. The Govt. has now pushed him into the drain, he added.

It is also learnt that the cutout of Sarath Fonseka which was displayed at the Army Exhibition to mark the 60th Army anniversary, now currently on at the BMICH was removed, and President Rajapkse’s cutout was put in its place.

Mr. Fonseka has expressed his displeasure over this incident to the President and Defense Secretary Gotabaya.
