“Three or four Buddhist monks or I cannot issue a Sangha order,“ said the Venerable Malabe Seelarathana Thero, former President of the Colombo District Bikkhu Front of the SLFP at a media briefing held by the United National Front in Colombo yesterday.
“We got to know that Hela Urumaya Parliamentarian the Venerable Uduwe Dhammaloka and several other Buddhist monks are planning to issue a Sangha order for General Sarath Fonseka.

"As far as I know such a Sangha order has not been issued to anyone in the recent past. There is no possibility for such a Sangha order being issued either. Also remember that neither those three or four Buddhist monks nor I am able to issue a Sangha order.

"If a Sangha order is to be issued then all responsible chief prelates and Mahanayakes of the Three Nikayas must come together hold discussions and unanimously decide on the issue.

"Or else a Sangha order cannot be issued to General Sarath Fonseka regarding him coming forward as the common candidate for a Presidential election,” said the Venerable Malabe Seelarathana Thero.
