what mode is it in ? check the bios setting.
Also, I assume the linux partition is on ext3 ?

after i installed ubuntu, i couldn't load windows or ubuntu. so i formatted ubuntu partition and reinstalled win 7. i also tried wubi. but same problem arises when i choose ubuntu from boot menu. is it some thing wrong with my hard disk? :(

your sata mode or controller is not compatible with linux. Change the sata mode and try it.

no. i'm new to ubunu. :)

I was new too at that time lol., I was like in middle of nowhere cant format because i had my files on the partition and didnt have a clue about command line options of GRUB finally I read some manual and booted up XP backed up alll the data and reinstalled XP :P

if you get a command prompt like screen after booting most probably you are at the same place i was then :P

no i don't get a command prompt. only a black screen. no indication of hard disk usage. i've no idea what to do. what's the use of OS likes ubuntu if we can't install it easily like windows. i'm really frustrated.

Not all the BIOS settings you dumb bell. Only the BIOS Settings for the SATA Controller!

hmm.. either there's no settings in bios regarding sata controller or i can't find it. anyway thnx 4 helping. i've given up installing ubuntu. why should i waste my time when i have win7. i'll wait for ubuntu 10.4. i hope it installs easily without much trouble.:)
