The government is planning a mass demonstration outside the election commissioner’s office tomorrow in a bid to prevent common candidate Gen. Sarath Fonseka handing over nominations, SLFP (M) leader Mangala Samaraweera said.

He said that thousands of Buddhist monks will be participating the protest organized by a notorious minister and a Buddhist monk supporting the government.

He said that special discussions were held at the Temple trees today with regard to this.

The opposition alleged today that moves are afoot to stop its common candidate Gen. Sarath Fonseka from handing over his nominations tomorrow. SLFP (M) Leader Mangala Samaraweera alleged that the government had decided to bring members of the Buddhist clergy near the election office to hold a demonstration to block Fonseka from handing over his nominations on time.
