hi guys i've been using PC's for a long time but this is the 1st time i'm going for a UPS, so i don't know diddly squat about them..for starters here's my specs

550W Power supply which runs:

Core 2 duo E6400 @ 2.14ghz
Asus P5LD2 SE (motherboard)
2 X 1GB 667 Ram
250GB + 500GB Hard Drives
ATI Radeon X1550 (512MB)
DVD writer
17inch CRT Monitor
ADSL modem
Sound Card

what's the best type of UPS you would recommend, i just want a UPS to stand around 10 min on full load just to backup and shutdown....
this may sound kinda dumb but does using a UPS increase my electricity usage or will it be just the same as before :confused::confused:

CRT will suck, you should seriously think about LCD. 700VA APC will serve the purpose provided you have LCD

i checked the UPS only the 600VA & 1.2KV are available, and the 1.2kv is like 9000/=,:no: it ain't worth it I'd rather use the money for something else

Well it is your choice. I also have to 1.25kV one and it is working very well, except that the power button gets stuck once in a while :P

if hasn't let me down.

but for your PC, I think it is a bit too much. a good 700VA one would be enough. :)

only worry is the CRT monitor. your PC doesn't use a lot of power. it would be use about 100-120W of power. the monitor will be using about 70-80W.

i couldn't find a 700va ups dude if you know a place let me know, my pc actually takes in a lot more than that i have a whole lot of junk inside:)
& my monitor is faulty it takes in 200W or so (believe Me), so i'm gonna buy a lcd first & then think about da UPS:)

if u can gofor "Defender " type , it would be much reasonable for what u r paying for, go for 700VA, or even 1000VA if u like, price shud be around 7k - 12k

there is little bit of power dissipation through the UPS but that can be negligible.
