This is an extract from Brahmajala Sutta, of Digha Nikaya. It shows how one should look at criticisms or praise others make about Buddha, Dhamma, Sangha...
Aim of this is essentially preventing those following the Path from getting distracted by praise/criticisms...
Moreover, we can get a cue on how to look at/ respond to criticisims or praise that we get in day-to-day lives...
No wonder a person following the Path develops tolerance to "Ata lo dahama"...
It is this tolerance that allows one to live a calm, peaceful life even in a turbulant envirnment...

I feel that one should read at least one Sutta from the silakkandha vagga to see how virtuous the Sangha is...
