Colombo shares up on predictions of Fonseka’s presidential poll win
Colombo stocks picked up in sentiment on Friday, after the slight dip seen yesterday, with analysts saying the recent crossovers by some People’s Alliance party members to the opposition has reinforced the notion that General Sarath Fonseka will secure a victory at the upcoming presidential elections.
“This sentiment was predominant today amongst the retailers who rallied stocks across the board,” an analyst said, adding that institutions did not participate much in today’s trading .
Sarath Rajapakse, Head of Research Capital Trust said that the overbought situation in the market resulting from two straight days of substantial gains seen on Monday's and Tuesday's trading was eased which saw the indices climb.
All Share was up by 1.04% to end at 3514.63 with Milanka witnessing a 0.95% increase to close at 4039.36 on a Rs 929.6 million turnover.
