Election's Commssioner to quit after polls

Angered by non compliance with his directives, Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake today told members of the presidential elections advisory committee he met a short while ago that he will quit his job as Commissioner at the conclusion of the presidential elections.

JVP MP Anura Dissanayake who was among those who met the Commissioner said that Commissioner Dissanayake has also decided to withdraw the Competent Authority whom he had appointed to the monitor state media during the pre election period.

ජනාධිපතිවරණ සමයේ මාධ්‍ය පාලනය කිරීම සඳහා මැතිවරණ කොමසාරිස් විසින් පත් කරන ලද නිසි බලධාරියාගේ සේවය අත්හිටවූ බව මැතිවරණ කොමසාරිස්වරයා විසින් දැනුම් දුන් බව ජ.වි.පෙ පාර්ලිමේන්තු මන්ත්‍රී අනුර කුමාර දිසානායක මහතා පවසයි.

අද පක්ෂ ලේකම්වරුන් සහ ස්වාධීන අපේක්ෂකයින්ගේ නියෝජිතයින් හා පවත්වන ලද සාකච්ඡාවේදී මේ බව දැනුම් දුන් බව හෙතෙම සඳහන් කරනු ලැබුවේ මැතිවරණ කොමසාරිස් කාර්යාලයේ පැවති සාකච්ඡාව අතරතුර කාර්යාලයෙන් එළියට පැමිණ රැස්ව සිටි මාධ්‍යවේදීන් හමුවේ කරුණු දක්වමිනි.

නිදහස් හා සාධාරණ මැතිවරණයක් පැවැත්වීම සඳහා විධිවිධාන සැලසීම වෙනුවෙන් නිසි බලධාරියෙකු පත් කරන ලැබුවද එකී කටයුතු නිසියාකාරව කරගෙන යාමට ඉඩක් නොවන නිසා ඊයේ රාත්‍රියේ සිට නිසි බලධාරියාගේ පත්කිරීම අවලංගු කළ බව කොමසාරිස්වරයා දැන්වූ බව හෙතෙම කියා සිටියේය.

මෙම ජනාධිපතිවැණය පැවැත්වීමෙන් පසු තමන් ඉල්ලා අස්වන බව ද මැතිවරණ කොමසාරිස් දයානන්ද දිශානායක මහතා පැවසූ බව ද මන්ත්‍රීවරයා වැඩිදුරටත් කියා සිටියේය.

Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayaka is to quit as Elections Chief following the conclusion of the Presidential Elections next week.

The Elections Commissioner had told political party representatives a short while ago that he will resign as non of his recommendations have been followed by the political parties contesting the polls next week, JVP MP Anura Kumara Dissanayaka told reporters.

The Elections Commissioner also told political party representatives that the competent authority appointed by him to oversee the conduct of the State media has been withdrawn as he failed to carry out his duties properly.
