    There are 14 active lighthouses in Sri Lanka. Most of the lighthouses in Sri Lanka are operated and maintained by the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA). However several are operated by the Sri Lanka Navy, while some are inactive.

    Colombo Clock Tower (Colombo Old)
    Nearest Town or City: Colombo Sri Lanka
    Location: West coast of Sri Lanka.
    Notes: This tower was first established as a clock tower in 1860; the navigational light was moved to the tower by 1865. The original clock (made by the same manufacturer as "Big Ben") was replaced in 1913. The light was eventually blocked by tall buildings and was replaced by the new Colombo Lighthouse at Galbokka Point.

    Hambantota
    1913 (station established 1903). Inactive. 14 m (43 ft) round masonry tower with lantern and gallery. The lighthouse is unpainted, but the use of dark and light stone gives it the appearance of having black and white spiral bands. Keeper's house and other light station buildings; there is also an early 19th century Martello tower adjacent to the light station. Focal plane of only 15 m (50 ft). The present lighthouse was active at least into the 1970s. Located on a promontory at Hambantota on the southeastern coast of Sri Lanka

    Great Basses Light House (Maha Rawana)
    Nearest Town or City: Palatupana Sri Lanka
    Location: Near the south end of the Great Basses reef, off the SE coast of Sri Lanka.
    Managing Organization: Sri Lanka Ports Authority
    Notes: The Basses (derived from the Portuguese word "baxos," meaning shoals) are a line of reefs off the SE coast of Sri Lanka. Both the Little Basses and Great Basses lighthouses were designed by James Douglass and constructed by his brother William Douglass of the Imperial Lighthouse Service. Each of the two is said to have received a hyperradial lens in 1888. The lighthouses were rehabilitated in the late 1990s, but they suffered some damage from the December 2004 tsunami, mainly to the lighting equipment. In December 2005, the English and Scottish lighthouse authorities - Trinity House and the Northern Lighthouse Board - announced that, in agreement with the Sri Lanka government, they had undertaken to repair the damage and launched a joint campaign to collect private funds for that purpose.

    Location: At the northern end of Little Basses Reef, off the SE coast of Sri Lanka.
