Rather, this is the perfect answer to your question. The point is, for the purpose of census, or for choosing which religion a child should learn at school, we automatically choose the religion of parents. And like you have stated, when parents are from two different religions, other factors come in to play.
But that 'religion' does not accurately describe a person's religion. A person can be said to belong in a particular religion when he/she has assessed and voluntarily chosen that. It could be what his/her parents taught him/her, but now the person has internalized its true values.

I am a firm believer of human humanity. The ultimate truth of and the basis of all religions and philosophies ever to roam the face of earth.Hence, I do not follow, believe or commend anything inferior to it.

OK lemme explain
- Religion is not vertically transmitted to mother to fetus such as inheritance
- But its true that the parental influence is the major factor deciding the religion of a kid 'do'
- But as in your case when 22X to 22Y influence makes the child fragile & opens his or her mind to choose that he thinks better or be in the middle standard ( even though some instances 22X overcomes 22Y or vise versa by influence)
- I mentioned of slaves, cos some who chosen the path where their parents followed( or what they believe) & reluctant to accept the truth ( finally to the topic) such as what thread stater says nothing is "eternal" not even the humanity nor the guy who created humanity
