I enjoyed all your comments..It was quite FUN!!! really...

But Let's get serious here...one of our friends is living a nightmare..believe me I was having a screw up time when It's close to Exams...these buggers bring down hell on earth..

I tried so many things..Lights-on, crackers, poison you name it, But these son-of-a-B's kept coming back as if I was living in their ancestral cemetery!!!

ANYWAY, one thing finally worked. Just pop in few "Duriang" skins into your ceiling!! The 1st few days you might have to run along with the pole cats but for your good luck you'll comeback, because you forgot to lock the front door!!

Sadly this treatment cannot be done right through the year as the the fruit is not available.

Hence I have now come to an amicable understanding with the scary bastards..They live in the front part of our house leaving the bedrooms and the dining area, so that they don't piss while I eat or sleep!!!

Best of Luck!!

well u can try fire few crackers (rathinga :) ) when they come into the roof for a day or two. then they'll probably wont come for months maybe.

when they come again do the same.

    thats the easiest i guess.

This is not funny! I am sorry to hear your situation.

I have being experienced the similar situation/case at our home almost 7-8 years now. I tried many ways getting rid of it, still no sucess.

I managed to catch one, it was about to die that time. Few hours later it died actually. So I thought it was over then. We had a very quite period of 4-5 month, but yet another one has get used to come here agian. Our ceiling like a devil yard when, it brings his babies some days. Trap and cacth it will be a very hard task as it is very cunning!!:oo::rolleyes::no::no::(:(:(

Best of luck for your effort!

Thanks very much for all for the suggestions.

Let me share the following info. Some of the other people having the same issues may have some use.

    Mesh:
Someone I know has successfully prevented by using mesh.
But his roof is a straight forward one and the mesh is fixed between the 4"x2" rafters and the beam on top of the wall on all sides. Quite a bit of work required as rafters are usually every 2' for a tile roof. Mesh is stiff 1" sq, becos the top edge cannot be nailed, but touches the tiles. So have to make sure Uguduwa cannot push.
Unfortunately my roof consists of main roofs, sub roofs, peaks and vally gutters. I have put mesh on all places possible, but baas says will have to remove vally gutters, put mesh and fix back vally gutters to block those places. Quite an expensive job with the risk of introducing water leaks. :baffled:

    Lights:
Again the person who told me to do this has solved his problem. The inside space of his ceililng is contiguous and one can crouch and wait inside. He has used 4 x 2' tube lights and keep them on 24 hours a day. There are no dark corners with the lights on. Will increase the number of units of electricity used per month depending on the wattage. (80W in this case).
In my case, specially my room, the ceiling is flat in the central area, but slopes down on the two sides, the same way as the roof. So the lights I fixed illuminates the central area. Towards the sides the spaces inbetween the rafters, tiles and the ceiling are not illuminated properly. The solution may be to have a row of tube lights or CFL bulbs for each space between the rafters such that there are no dark corners left. Will cost a bit to implement and use. :(

    Moth balls:
Guess this is similar to using Duriyan.
The one who told me about moth balls said he used about 15kg of moth balls and had more or less a layer of it on the ceiling. I didn't use such a large quantity so that may be why it didn't work. :growl:

Trees and access to roof from surroundings:
Yup, cutting branches coming near roof helps.
Note that Uguduwas can easily climb rain water down pipes and if adjacent house roofs come close to your roof, they can come that way.

Must try the Duriyan solution too among other things.

    many thanks!

    thanks all

aapu welawakata sri lankan songs tikak daapang, aaye e palathetama enne ne :P

someone told a solution like this shown in discovery channel, sometime back. Interesting so I will share it. :D

During world war 2, a certain air force base in uk, had a problem of birds on the runway. When planes (those days propeller planes) came to land or take off, the birds start to fly and then several accidents and damage to planes due to birds hitting plane.

Shooting, people driving on the runway, lighting crackers etc were tried, but was not a solution. The birds flew away for the disturbance, but in a moment they came back.

Finally they found a solution. A jeep went on the runway every time before take off or landing with songs from a particular female singer (i forget who) played at high volume. Birds went away and didnt come back for quite some time - leaving enough time for planes to safely take off or land. It was noted that songs from other singers did not have the desired effect.

May be similar thing will work on uguduwa too :)
