But it also can mean grapevine . this is the problem with Quran. verses can have several meanings and anybody can interpret in any way they prefer.

nope the Quran has only one meaning...but several interpretations based on it.....:)

that is one of the miracles of the Quran...it is as relevant to the ancient desert ppl as it is to the modern world....as our understanding of the world changes and matures...the Quran starts to make more sense.....

yet it gave the same message though out the ages.....:):)

dude they couldn't grow grapes......

so it must have been another type of plant.....

even non-Muslims around that time used wheat to make rum...beer etc etc...from the wheat like barley.....

so i am telling you....there is no way anyone from a desert region.....can make wine....it had to be imported....they had wheat based alcohols...not vine/fruit based...
:rolleyes::rolleyes:

as far as i know at least....

it is not the point here . the point is that this Quran verse can be interpreted as Wine consumption is approved in Islam.

ok, now you're running on pure belief and not logic. Once you step in to that realm, there's no point in having arguments or discussions. So let this thread end here. Only bashing will ensue if you follow this course.

The Prophet said: "Allah has forbidden alcoholic drinks. Whoever this verse reaches while they still possess any of it, they are not to drink nor to sell.".
    —Narrated Abi Said, Muslim

Once again...Islam dose not condone alcohols or any substances that "poison the body"....as we Muslims view this body as a loan from God.....

hence a loan we must not abuse.....

Then take the high road and let this thread end. Stoop to the same level and you'll have a war in your hands.

Prophet must have said something . Prophet has said some amazing things. I will give you a list of them soon. But Quran says something totally different.

Above Quran verse can easily be interpreted as Wine Consumption is OK. So which is right ?

the thing that is right...is that you are wrong.....

    1) Desert ppl did not drink wine.....they hade wheat based drinks

    2) God has asked us not to poison our body with anything.....

    3) Majority of Islamic countries do not allow alcoholic drinks...(if what you say is right...would that be so?....)

    4) Read the verse carefully....notice the end part.....about how there is a message in that for the wise...guess what you are?....:lol:

    5) I have probably heard all these "things" you have to say....i know many ppl who read the same anti-Islamic sites as you.....a muslim is not someone who is insecure about his/her religion...we know what we are doing.....but you are barking up the wrong tree.....

    :sorry:

sorry too many posts in advanced sinhala...i can't read much.....sorry.....

please note i did not want to bash one religion over the other....or say one's way was better than the other....

in fact all i wanted was to look for similarities between my religion and that of Buddhism...coz i admire true Buddhist ALOT....

to me Lord Buddha's sacrifices...simplistic life style & search for enlightenment seems like the ideal life for a good person....

i am sorry if i offended anyone....and i will try to rephrase things properly before i post.....once again sorry....

i just want Buddhists & Muslims to share the similarities between their religions....:)

I was offended by your statement about the similarities of Buddhism and Islam, but no worries, you are forgiven.:)
Buddhism and Islam differs greatly by the core teachings so there is no point of discussing "similarities".:)
Ok. Considering your request, I will try to translate my previous post into English.:)

except when it comes to certain things....while Islam is about defense......Buddhism is about tolerant behavior....when under attack.....

    please discuss.....

Here is what Buddhism is about when under attack...

It is no wonder if we, at times, in our everyday life, feel angry with somebody about something. But we should not allow this feeling to reside in our mind. We should try to curb it at the very moment it has arisen.

Generally there are eight ways(I will not post all since I know that you will get bored when reading long articles.) to curb or control our anger.

    1. The first method is to recollect the teachings of the Buddha. On very many occasions the Buddha explained the disadvantages of an angry temper. Here is one of his admonitions:

Suppose some bandits catch one of you and sever his body limb from limb with a two-handed saw, and if he should feel angry thereby even at that moment, he is no follower of my teaching.
    — Kakacuupama Sutta, Majjhima Nikaaya 21

He abused me, he beat me, he defeated me, he robbed me of my property. Whosoever harbour such thoughts will never be able to still their enmity.
Never indeed is hatred stilled by hatred; it will only be stilled by non-hatred — this is an eternal law.
    — Dhp 4-5
Do not speak harshly to anyone. Those who are harshly spoken to might retaliate against you. Angry words hurt other’s feelings; even blows may overtake you in return.
    — Dhp 133
Forbearance is the highest observance. Patience is the highest virtue. So the Buddhas say.
    — Dhp 184
Let a man remove his anger. Let him root out his pride. Let him overcome all fetters of passions. No sufferings overtake him who neither clings to mind-and-body nor claims anything of the world.
    — Dhp 221
Conquer anger by non-anger. Conquer evil by good. Conquer miserliness by liberality. Conquer a liar by truthfulness.
    — Dhp 223
Guard your mind against an outburst of wrong feelings. Keep your mind controlled. Renouncing evil thoughts, develop purity of mind.
    — Dhp 233

    2. When we feel angry with any person, we should try to find some good in him, either in his way of thinking, or in his way of speaking or in his way of acting. If we find some redeeming quality in him, we should ponder its value and ignore his bad qualities as natural weaknesses that are to be found in everyone.

Islam preaches never to love nor hate a another person on earth based on personal stuff.....if you love some one love them for God...if your angry with someone be angry for God.....

basically it says....don't give too much importance to your emotions on Earth...coz it is only temporary....

yet some "Muslims" behave in such horrible ways....:no:

just like how certain Buddhists do not follow the above rule...so don't certain Muslims....

we cannot judge a religion based on its ppl.....not in these times....:(:(

Islam and Buddhism are ALOT similar than you think......
