Supplementation for Bodybuilding! Is it really necessary?

Dear EK builders,
Many people ask me, pretty frequently, that whether it is necessary to use supplements in order to build muscle. And there is this other group of people, who actually doesn't work out at all, but when they start seeing my pics with a little bit of muscle in them they start saying "hey, hey.. you did that on supplements right??" ( Piti gahala neda anga hada gatte aah??). This crowd actually gets into my nerves:frown:. They just believe that If they use supplements and simply DO NOT workout even, they will grow big! Hello??? Supplements aint a magic portion for growth (Meka soora pappage arishtaya newei!). I just want to clarify this point to all of you EK enthusiastic builders today.
So as I've discussed earlier in a thread we need three major elements in order to build muscle. They are training, nutrition and rest! Supplementation directly links with nutrition in this case. It doesn't matter where does the nutrients come from (most of the time), it provides your body the right nutrients for growth it will grow! So what is the role of supplements then? Well supplements does the same job as food does, it provides necessary nutrients to our bodies. Then why supplements over food? Well there are two answers for this. Mainly it's for convenience! Imagine reaching a daily target of 180-200 grams of protein without using protein shakes? It's an arduous task in the modern environment due to the lack of QUALITY foods around us. This is one reason why we use supplements..the foods we consume today are lack of quality nutrients. Reason number two is to provide the right food timing. The post-work out meal is considered the golden meal of the day for BBs. It should be taken within half an hour once you finish your workout! Using quick absorbing proteins (Whey-protein) is highly recommended at this state since it will promote in maximum muscle growth!
Those (lazy arse) people claim that whey-protein or protein powders to be unnatural! But my question is since when is WHEY unnatural??? If this is the case is milk powder artificial too?? Whey protein has the same concept of milk powder..its the dry state of whey! Whey is natural and humans consumed Whey for thousands of years. In addition, latest researches show that using whey protein is highly recommended since it can fight against many cancers!
My suggestion to all EK builders is that to think rationally with a scientific background before making your conclusions! Don't listen to people who come up with ideas to slack off! Supplementation is GOOD if you use it right..
My suggested supplementation list,

1. Whey Protein
2. Fish Oil
3. Multi Vitamin
4. Creatine
5. L-Glutamine

And remember, They don't do miracles! They are just the part of your nutrition program. The most important aspect is that you need to train like an animal at the gym! Yes, I mean INTENSITY!!:growl:

Train Intelligently Machanla
Cheers

@ Some.. Really appreciate your comments man! Your looking good machan! Nice work..Keep it rolling;)
Sorry man! I have to drag you into controversy. I can pretty well understand the situation of sky high supplement prices in Sri Lanka compared to it's local currency. But my point is wouldn't you use them if you had the luxury to afford them?
On the other point, I respect your views on good form on lifting and proper techniques. However, in my humble opinion I believe that even proper techniques can become a futile effort without proper nutrition (supplementation)...and it's pretty obvious..no rocket science in that. Please don't get me wrong! I'm a big fan and a believer of proper form and techniques of training for maximum muscle gains and to prevent those horrendous injuries. But what I believe is building big is 80% about nutrition and 20% of proper training.
With regards to creatine I would recommend it to anybody! It doesn't matter if it is a beginner or an expert! Creatine helps a lot to preserve strength ( especially when 'cutting') and to preserve muscle from catabolizing. And the good news is it's 100% safe! Please read on the new researches done in this regard!

    Train Well Machang

    Cheers again!

@ Some.. Really happy to hear about another vegetarian BBer. I actually started off as a vegetarian and unfortunately now given it up since it made it really hard for me to stick up to a muscle building diet plan with my current (busy) life-style and since I have no kitchen facilities in here :sorry:. However, as you have already explained, with the correct choices of food, building up muscle on a vegetarian diet isn't impossible at all. But the trouble lies with getting some vital ingredients for muscle recovery, such as creatine, which can only be found in red meats (unfortunately)!. But hey!! we are now in the 21st century now where we've got abundant numbers of supplements available around us. So I would highly recommend vegetarian BBs to use creatine as a part of their diet! It isn't artificial stuff and it isn't a hormone..so don't worry about using them ( If your not sure..simple...just google it and see! ;)).
And also in to your supplement list I would definitely add L-Glutamine! It's miracle stuff which will help you from losing muscle!

    Train safe machanla

Haven't personally tried EAS Creatine, so cannot quite comment on it. But creatine and L-glutamine makes cutting cycles hella lot easier since it plays a big role in preserving muscle mass... On top of all, it's all natural!

@Some.. Thanks for the kind comments machan. I believe in the statement that 'abs are built in the kitchen not in the gym!'. Most of us have a six-pack, but unfortunately, it's covered by slabs of fat!
Answering your question, I'm on a cutting cycle right now. Therefore, I'm on a low-calories and I use creatine to keep my workouts pumped up and L-glutamine to prevent catabolism. I use a whey-protein post workout shake. Apart from that I get all my calories from solid foods.:).. It's not easy to top up the calories from solids whilst long hours of working and also not having kitchen facilities:(. Also I'm trying my best to shoot for 8 hours of proper sleep...
Btw nice bulk-up machan... When are you planning to cut up?
    Keep lifting machan

    Cheers

@ Murtaza... Thanks for the link machan. But, I cannot personally believe such stuff without any scientific backing.. After all vitamins occur naturally..and how can it suddenly become a lethal substance for humans?
Also, be careful with some of the internet knowledge because they pass a lot of bogus information around. I'm currently on a High Fat and High Cholesterol diet to build muscle and I believe that's the perfect human diet! But according to many (with no scientific backing) this will be quite an unhealthy diet!
    Science rules folks...
    Train Intelligently..
