Sources from Sri Lanka Cricket said that the
President in a telephone conversation with Sri
Lanka cricketer and parliamentarian Sanath
Jayasuriya had asked “Sanath, wouldn’t it be
good for you to move out of cricket at least
now ?” The President it is learnt had asked this
following Jayasuriya’s dismal performance at the
T20 Cricket World Cup currently being played.
“I think that you should now stop playing cricket
and enter full time politics to serve the people
who voted for you, ” the President had told
Sanath.
The President had then told his son Namal
Rajapaksa, “Getting Sanath out of cricket at this
point of time is a great service we can render to
Sri Lankan cricket. ”
The President it is learnt had also asked Namal not
to lobby on behalf of Sanath with the Sri Lanka
Cricket officials in future.
