Brazil, Turkey urge UN not to impose Iran sanctions
Brazil and Turkey have urged the United Nations Security Council not to impose new sanctions on Iran over its nuclear program.
Brazil and Turkey, which were behind negotiations that resulted in Iran agreeing this week to export much of its low grade uranium, issued the letter to its fellow members on the 15 seat Security Council.
It comes a day after the United States said it had reached agreement with other countries including China and Russia on a draft resolution to impose new sanctions targetting Iran's banking system, cargo shipping and arms imports.
The resolution is yet to be passed.
