na i saw some people saying proud to be Sri lankan and stuff like that. wonder what they would have told if they were born in some other European country.
i mean.. seriously whats there to be so proud about this.
Ppl should learn to appreciate what they have instead of complaining about other ppls things. Europeans are proud of their things as we are of our things. The sad truth is our ppl doesn't understand the value of our free education system and always keep on complaining of its flaws.
In those so called developed nations like USA there are many who cannot afford to get a degree cos its so expensive. But here if you work hard enough you get that opportunity to become a person qualified enough even to go and teach on those so called top of the range Universities!!!

You are wrong to say that students who qualify can't go to university because of financial reasons
Students get extra help based on the grades they have
Financial aid includes grants & loans
Can you name any professors in top universities who are only educated in Sri Lanka ?

we are not born in that places. so pls appriciate what we have. be happy that we have such beautiful places like pera, sabaragamuwa n uwa. Eu contries may have much nicer unis. who cares. what we have are also beautiful enough. we are proud for them.
n by the way most guys commented as proud to be SL as not only considering the beauty. but considering other facts also. we have to proud that those unis offers so many things whilst adding color to the scenery.
yep. almost all got their Phd abroad. but in UOM CSE 100% got their first degree in SL. they followed post grad abroad. but why? do we have good research bases here? do we have good phd courses here. no. that is why. it is not because they want a foreign degree. it is because they what they want is not here at the moment. and again they can afford their post grads abroad coz they have a degree. he can work and earn some. but most of them are here because of the existing education system. mind you machan.. they value what they got from here so much. not like you guys.

The term "only" can't be applied cos we don't have strong financial,technological facilities to do higher studies to reach the professor levels locally. But you must understand that there are lots of professor/lecturers around the globe who got their BSc here and completed the rest abroad.
Having said that search for Professor Rohan Abeyaratne and see. He got his first degree here.
