Dont think this even qualifies as arthouse.. even though it has enough crap
not too grotesque but overtly symbolic. Probably the symbolism distracts the viewer from the main story (if any!) as you keep trying to figure out what each scene symbolizes.

i hated it when the "christ like figure" started acting like a monkey

and the ending of this movie seriously sucked...they totally ruined it dont you think by showing the production crew

i saw ppl comparing this to david lynches eraserhead. .that's stupid though cos eraserhead is far superior a movie to this.

that must've been interesting. Atleast you'd be able to figure out what the movie was all about. Version I watched didn't have any commentary.

yeah he explained most the things ..but I didn't really listen to it just kept on watching with the regular audio with the intention of watching it the second time with directors comments..bt never had a will to watch that sack of weird shit again

First heard about this title upon Bergman's death in 2007.I remember some Sri Lanken movie critics including Dr .Sunanda Mahendra was praising the film .This one and the "the Shame"
Most of our new generation movie makers are accessing world Cinama without much a of problem these days due to availability of digital media.If old age sri lanken movie makers had reached for those ,then we would have been seeing 100s of great movies instead of hindhi cinama remakes..

Im gonna tell the story in short point form

- Raavan had a sister(සුර්පනකා) who lived in India

- She was against sacrifice animals for the god which had been rooted in India at that time

- In history its written that Rama had cut සුර්පනකා's nose. cutting nose is another term for raping at that time . Which is unacceptable to treat a women under any circumstances

- So in order to teach Rama the lesson of deprivation
and how to treat a women ,
Raavan kidnapped Sitha

- But He never ever rape Sitha but treat her with respect and good (It proves when Rama demand Sitha to have අග්නි test she had passed proving she is still virgin)

Can you see that movie resembles the same ?
