If you are planning to get a schol, you need to have a special degree in BA/Bsc, with a class. Depends on your performance in BA/Bsc, recommendations and other exams such as toefl and gre, in applying for a foreign uni. Also possible with a general degree and MA/Msc. Anyway, money prevails everything as long as uve got basic requirements.

    yeah i do agree.
if you plan to go abroad for ur phd, the basic requirement is to have a FOUR year degree(that's why you need a special degree), preferably with a good GPA.
then you'll need to do GRE(Graduate Record Exam) if you intend to go to USA.
there are two components for GRE: subject GRE and General GRE. General GRE is a must & the subject GRE is optional but worth doing cuz good subject GRE results usually give you the chance to get a good grad school.
US degrees are very expensive so basically you'll need good grades + good GRE results to earn a schol

Universities of Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark offer free of charge education. if you are really lucky, you might be able to get selected to one of those

Phd eka karanna Kalin Master ekak Karanna o na
    :no::no::no::no:

you can directly do a phd without the masters if you have under ur belt
    1. a 4 year degree
    2. good GPA
    3. good GRE results (for US only)

if your degree is a 3 year one then you'll need to do masters to compensate for the missing credits.

A degree is the basic qualification for a PHD or even a MBA/ MSC.

I am sure you already know that it's expensive to do any recognized degree (I hope you are planning a foreign one) + for a PHD you have to do a UNIQUE project/ thesis, which is a hell of a deal! Basically you have to do something that was not done before :D.

    But here's the real case,

    1) Do the same, if you are dead sure that you can capitalize on your PHD by getting a higher salary with a present/ potential employer.

I spent like $30,000 for my MBA but sometimes feel that maybe I should've invested that money in a business/ stock market because the returns are much higher and at the end of the day it's just a jewel, that's it.

Basically, with a PHD/ MSC, in your resume, you rather look scary to most employers :D. That's because they do not want someone to take over them, down the line. So be practical and do not expect every employer to offer you a job with your PHD.

    2) Given the amount of time sacrifice you have to make for the PHD, do it, if you really got too much time/ patience/ mind temperament in your hands. If not your personal life will be crazily affected and you will get quite dreadful down the line.

Anyway good luck with your choice!

    Well not necessarily ture. :(

However everything depends on the filed you go.

PhD is not extreeeeeeemly hard as most ppl think. Always you are backed up by the supervisor. It is not necessary to have a unique project. You may continued a stopped project that has been started by somebody else.

There are specific jobs that require a PhD specially in chemistry, physics, science fields.

Also doing a PhD doesnt mean that you scarify your life. There are many Sri Lankan PhD students here in USA with there family and kids having a regular lifestyle like other ppl.

Regular way to get a PhD

    1. Have a special degree (4yr) with a good class and GPA or 3yr degree with a master.
    2. Very good recontamination from your lecturers. (This is very important)
    3. TOEFL and GRE (for USA)
