The UNP Deputy leader Karu Jayasooriya had already informed Ranil Wickremesinghe of his decision when he had met him this morning.
As the people, party members and the majority are asking for Sajith Premadasa to be made the UNP leader, Karu Jayasooriya had requested when he met Ranil Wickremesinghe to hand over the leadership to him.
Jayasooriya had made this request following a decision taken by the Sajith’s group together with him when they met Jayasooriya at his house on the 29th night and held discussions.
The UNP is a party which speaks about good governance and Democracy. Ranil Wickremesinghe always has acted in accordance with those policies. He too has always stood by them, Jayasooriya had pointed out. As the people and the majority of the party membership are clamoring that Sajith shall be the UNP leader, Jayasooriya had requested Ranil to come forward and hand over the leadership to Sajith Premadasa.
