• you want better image resolution - 14.1MP helps you to even crop images but still have greater resolution than the Nikon.
• you can zoom more with 14X optical
• even if you go into the digital zoom, the 14.1MP will make the image sharper than the Nikon

Go for the Nikon if you are into HD video. But if this is the priority.. buy a cam corder.

Also please see the ISO range of the Canon .. the higher ISO range allows you to shoot indoors and in dark situations better.
