UK gives £650 million to Pakistan and apologizes
David Cameron has pledged £650 million to Pakistan and admitted that Britain is responsible for many of the world’s problems. The papers say, “what?”
Addressing a student audience in Islamabad yesterday, Prime Minister David Cameron took responsibility on behalf of the UK for “many” of the world’s problems, including the conflict in Kashmir between India and Pakistan.
Just a year ago Cameron caused a diplomatic rift when he accused Pakistan of “looking both ways” on terrorism. Therefore, to “make amends for the past,” the UK is to invest £650 million in Pakistani schools and military technology. “As part of an effort to make a fresh start,” explained the PM. Cameron defended the payments, by saying it was “in our interest” to help Pakistan. He argued, “If Pakistan is a success we’ll have a good friend to trade and invest and deal with.” And Pakistan’s Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani followed-up by explaining that a “root cause” of terrorism was illiteracy.
