If you travel in Africa you'll note that the Lion is one of the most lazy animals around. Only thing he does is mostly sleep and if he's awake 'sex'.
But not the Lionesses. They are the better runners and the hunters.
Nope. You gotta do some research mate. Lion is one of the best hunters. Females dont even come close. Its true they sleep a lot. What they mostly do is walking around to protect their pride area. You see females hunting mostly because a pride consists of majority of females (3-4 males and 10-20 females). Males will participate in hunting if females catch an animal they cant handle. Otherwise they dont hunt for food. Their main duty is protecting the pride from invaders.

I respect your opinion but not the ones we have seen. I have been to Serengeti, covered Kenya fully (incl Masai Mara) Zambia, Zimbabwe & Botswana. They all are the same. (Lions)
We had seven in our group (six adults and my son) and the consensus was that the Lion is the most lazy. We got fed up of Lions. Cheetahs are superb to watch and follow. Very active and they keep watch on high places on rocks and try to find prey. They are not always successful. Impalas also keep watch too and not that easy to catch.

This is from an African write up about Lions.....

    Difference between Lion & Lioness:

    Lion
    • The Lions are very prominent in their territory and their pride.
    • Lions are large and heavy with length reaching 250 centimeters and body weight reaching 250 kilograms.
    • Males have a long and dark mane that is unique to them.
    • They protect the territories from neighboring pride.
    • The Lions in the pride does not go for hunting.
    • After a successful hunt, adult Lions are the first receiver of the fresh meat
    • Lions are usually lazy in the day time & you can see them resting in the shades of the tree during the days.
    • Lions are not faster and do not run fast.
    • Male ones in pride are not related via bloodlines.
    • Males often combat with other males.

    Lioness
    • Lioness is the active member of the family or the lion pride.
    • Lioness is the smaller ones which range from 140 to 175 centimeters in length and bodyweight of 190 kilograms.
    • The body is slender and helps to be more flexible.
    • Lioness is the primary hunter in any pride.
    • Lioness kills the prey and brings it to the pride and serves dominant males to eat first.
    • Sexually matured lioness usually continues with the pride While the male ones left.
    • Lioness in pride is related via bloodlines.
    • The lioness does not combat often.
The main role of Lion is to protect the pride and its territory. They mostly do not go hunting out until it is a real necessity. They just remain in the shade protecting itself from the heat. However, it remains in fighting shape so that a younger stud will not bother him, attack him, and crush all the cubs to death. Its duty of Lion has to protect the cubs, so the lion needs to take care of his needs as much as possible. The Lions risk their life for their families, their pride. That’s their job.

The main role of Lioness is to go out and hunt, get food for its pride and serve the first meat to the Lion from freshly killed prey. The lioness has a flexible body and do not have a mane, this protects itself from the heat. The body of a lioness is ideal for hunting and a sleek and longer body makes Lioness better hunter than a lion in one way.

Lionesses are much faster, which makes them a better hunter than lions. Lion runs 35 mph however Lioness can reach up to a speed of 45 mph. This is because of the body shape and structure. The Lioness is sleek and has a flexible body, this makes the Lioness run faster without any problem but the Lion is large and heavy, Lion also has a big mane, which doesn’t allow itself from running fast as it may suffer from heat issues and die a heat death because of the body, especially the head cannot get rid of the excess heat produced during the heavy activity. So in this Lion vs. Lioness criterion, lioness always has a better conversion rate.

It is festive to your eyes to witness how lions hunt their prey. There are 2 types of hunting:

The first one is stalking, which is easy like bread and butter to a lioness. The lioness stays hidden as long as possible, slinking along the belly whenever it is necessary, hides in the grass which is more often the same color as the fur in order to get very close to the prey.

When the lioness finally gets noticed, it springs up and sprints to the prey. It first gets the claws in and tackles the prey and keeps it down until the throat is crushed and kills it. It’s not the skill, but how well it is executed, makes the lioness better hunter than a lion!

The other type of method is a bit straight forward which is always pride based. Here the lioness mainly concentrates on buffaloes, giraffes and possibly elephants, in certain areas of Africa, where the big manned lions also take part in. It is well organized with Lioness first taking the position on the flanks, it the things work out well, then the lion comes into play and the real fight starts. The massive prey and lion look at each other eye to eye with a knowledge of something is about to go down. If the prey does not get any help from its herd, then the lion and lioness that come out on the top and have a feast for the rest of the day!

So we can easily conclude that Lionesses play a very crucial role in their pride. They are made for hunting and feeding the pride whereas Lions are made for fighting and protecting its pride. Hope This gives you detailed information about why Lioness is a better hunter than a Lion.

    PS:

The Lions in Botswana are the best fed and the largest. They are not short of food and water there. One of the most popular ones, Bilimangenge - The King of the Okavango Delta - sadly died in 2019.
He was unique in that his mane grew under his belly, all the way to between his hind legs, a genetic trait not often seen in lions these days. He was an old male and had lived a full life.
Unfortunately Billy’s fate was sealed when three new males moved into his territory, killing the old male in order to secure the area as their own (a common occurrence in lion dynamics in the wild.) His brother had no option but to flee to avoid the same fate.
