This is such a foolish move by India.
India is a country surrounded by enemies and there are many internal
conflicts ongoing. Pakistan and China are not in good terms with
India and both are nuclear powers. India only had good relationships
with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in the region and now due to this
foolish decision, India has opened China another front. It is clear
that Sri Lanka was balancing the powers of India and China in an
effective way. However, during the recent times, due to undue
pressure from India, the markets and the loyalties were shifting from
India to China. Sri Lanka is a country which had completely defeated
a terrorist group. India is yet to achieve this. While India stood
with US and EU, the critical regional power, China stood with Sri
Lanka while traditional Indian ally Russia also stood with Sri Lanka.
Thus, through Sri Lanka lost, they showed the world that all the
emerging powers are with them, apart from India who stood with the
yesterday's empire. Sri Lanka is sure to return the favor. They will
reduce purchases from India. China has substitutes for all Indian
products at cheaper prices too. Vehicles, medicine, tourism, etc will
plunge between the two countries and India has three locations to
watch out for; Pakistan, the traditional enemy, China, emerging
superpower and Sri Lanka, the new borne enemy. Thus, China has three
doors which they can surround India, from east, west and south.
Making enemies is easy, suffering the repercussions is difficult.
