ARE WE READY FOR A REFUGEE TSUNAMI
One such safe haven these people would see is Sri Lanka, where they will feel safe from the decease. There are "tens of thousands" of fishing boats lying along the southern coast of India that frequently fish in Sri Lankan waters. Will we see a Tsunami of panic stricken Indian refugees fleeing the “out of control” epidemic in their country, and arriving in Sri Lanka? Will our efforts at containing the decease in the country come to nothing due to thousands of infected people arriving? What can we do to face this challenge.
The Navy will not be able to stop them due to the sheer weight of numbers. One option available to us would be, to evacuate civillians from the island of Mannar in a hurry, and to direct all the refugees there, so that the people (and the decease) can be prevented from arriving in the mainland. Mannar island can be turned into a strictly military controlled quarantine zone for refugees. Depending on the numbers, even a smaller and less populated island off the north coast, can serve this need.
