Did you make sure that your CD drive was set to first in boot order?
If not,
when XP install gets to a certain point,
it tries to reboot, but once you start installing,
your computer thinks it finds an OS on the hard drive and tries to boot to an partially installed OS instead of going back to the CD to continue the install, thereby finding missing files or drivers.
Go into your BIOS and set the CD as first in boot order and then try again.
