I think that's correct. I know one guy who went to Canada as a refugee.
His claim was he participated in the 2022 "aragalaya" and he got threats after Ranil became president. He moved to Canada, got a house and an allowance from the government. Also works cash in hand.
But he wasn't even in Sri Lanka in 2022

True, I know a guy as well, he was not even in Sri Lanka, was residing in UAE. His mother in law was a police officer. Their story was, life threat due to a property issue which was a big lie. But thanks to his police connections he was able to prove everything using Fake documents, police complaints and etc...
